RJ#4 Heroes

The document discusses a reading journal response about the film Freedom Writers and the concept of heroes. It asks students to identify qualities that make a hero, name the hero of the film, and list some of their own personal heroes. Students are then instructed to write a paragraph for each of three heroes they choose, explaining what makes that person heroic to them.

Write your response to the reading journal below: RJ #4: Miep Gies, the daughter of the family that

sheltered Anne Frank, is the hero of one of the students. She says that all the kids are heroes. Why do you think she says this? What qualities make a hero, and who is the hero of the film? Who are your heroes, and why?

See back!
Participate as we discuss this journal entry, and write the responses that we come up with as a class below: What qualities make a hero?

Who is the hero of the film Freedom Writers?

What/who are some contemporary heroes, and why are they heroes?

Now that we have discussed these questions and your responses, you need to elaborate upon your journal response. You need to pick 3 of your heroes, and you will write a paragraph (5-7 sentences) for EACH person you choose, where you will EXPLAIN why they are a hero and what makes them heroic to you. Make sure that you are specific in your explanations about what makes each person a hero to you. We will be working in the computer lab. You will have the rest of class today to finish writing about your heroes. This assignment is DUE by the end of class TODAY!
