Special Programming Instructions for UTXDR Transducers
Introduction our UTXDR ultrasonic flow transducers.
Thank you for your recent purchase of 913-332A
                                                                     June 2006
The UTXDR transducers have been used in hundreds of customer applications
since their introduction in 2005 for use with our AquaTrans™ UTX878 ultrasonic
liquid flow transmitter. The UTXDR transducers are now compatible with our
complete line of dedicated ultrasonic liquid flowmeters (AquaTrans™ AT868,
                        DigitalFlow™ DF868 and DigitalFlow™ XMT868i) and with our portable
                        Transport® PT878 ultrasonic liquid flowmeter.
Transducer Spacing There are two different versions of the UTXDR transducers, and you must identify
your version in order to properly set the transducer spacing during installation.
Refer to Figure 1 below, which shows a top view of both transducer designs, and
determine if you have the “Rounded Top” or “Squared Top” transducer design.
                                      Rounded Top Squared Top
Figure 1: The Two UTXDR Transducer Designs
Refer to your flowmeter User’s Manual for instructions on navigating to the
programming screen for the transducer spacing. Then, based on your transducer
design, install the transducers with the following spacing:
                        • Rounded Top - use the transducer spacing calculated by the meter
                        • Squared Top - add 0.2” to the transducer spacing calculated by the meter

Transducer Parameters We are in the process of updating the user program software for each of the
ultrasonic liquid flowmeters mentioned on page 1, so that the UTXDR transducers
are included as a standard selection in the programming menus. If your current
meter software does not include the UTXDR option among the standard transducer
types, complete the following steps to correctly program your meter:
                                 1. Refer to the User’s Manual that was supplied with your flowmeter to navigate
through the programming menus until you reach the screen for entering the
                                    transducer parameters.
                                 2. Select the option: Transducer Number 91 (Special)
                                 3. Find your transducer model number in Table 1 below.
                                 4. Using the data in Table 1 below, program your Transducer Type, Tw,
Frequency, Wedge Soundspeed and Wedge Angle values into your meter.
Note: For portable flowmeters, the above steps need only be completed once.
The programmed information is permanently stored under Transducer 91
                                       until the parameters are modified.

 * The listed Wedge Soundspeed is for a default wedge temperature of 20°C. To calculate the correct value
for other wedge temperatures use the following formula:
                        Wedge Soundspeed = [ 2516 – ( 1.59 • wedge temp in °C ) ] m/s
