The second part of the book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" tells about the struggle of Dorothy and

her friends against the evil Queen of the West

After learning about the guests of the Emerald City, the Wicked Witch of the West successively
sends forty wolves, forty ravens, a swarm of black bees and Winkie soldiers. The Lumberjack
destroys the wolves, the Scarecrow scares away the crows, the bees die trying to sting the
Lumberjack, while the friends hide in the Scarecrow's straw. The soldiers run away when they hear
the roar of the Lion.

Then the Witch sends the Flying Monkeys and orders them to bring her the Lion and kill the rest.
The monkeys throw the Woodcutter onto a sharp stone, remove all the straw from the Scarecrow,
and throw his clothes and hat on a tree branch, after which they tie up the Lion and seize Dorothy.
The monkeys cannot harm her, because the girl was kissed on the forehead by the Good Witch of
the North before the journey. However, the witch manages to steal one of her silver shoes. Then
Dorothy pours water on the Witch, which turns out to be fatal for the villain. Having taken the shoe
and the Golden Hat, the girl frees the Lion, and the winks fix the Tin Woodman and stuff fresh
straw into the stuffed animal. Instead of the Witch, the winkies choose the Woodcutter as their king.

The Wizard and Dorothy build a green silk balloon to go home together. Oz appoints the Scarecrow
as ruler in his place. As Toto takes off, Dorothy is forced to chase after the cat, at which point the
ropes break, so Oz flies off on his own. Dorothy summons the Flying Monkeys again, but they are
unable to fly across the desert that surrounds Oz. The guard advises the girl to seek help from the
Good Sorceress of the South.
So Dorothy and her friends go in search of her. Along the way, they defeat the Warrior Trees,
carefully make their way through the Land of Fragile Porcelain, inhabited by fragile porcelain men,
and reach the forest, where the Lion kills a huge spider that terrorizes the animals there. Grateful
animals choose Leo as the king of beasts. Finally, with the help of the Flying Monkeys, the travelers
fly over the land of warlike swallows.

Glinda meets the travelers and informs Dorothy that she could return to Kansas at any time. In fact,
she always had everything she needed: it was enough to tap the silver shoes against each other three
times, and they would transport their mistress anywhere. Summoning the Flying Monkeys, Glinda
orders them to transport the Lion, the Tin Woodman and the Scarecrow to their kingdoms and then
returns the Golden Hat to the monkeys. Dorothy says goodbye to her friends and returns to her
uncle and aunt, but loses her shoes. She is met by Aunt Em, to whom Dorothy tells her that she is
glad to be back.
