Unit 1 Our Town, Zooville

Welcome to our town, Zooville!

This is Roy.
He lives in a round house.
He likes to run.
He is a mail carrier.

This is Sarah.
She lives in a long house.
She likes to slide.
She is a cleaner.

This is Oliver.
He lives in a tall house.
He likes to watch.
He is a police officer.

They all work hard for Zooville.


Unit 2 Numbers Everywhere!

There are numbers everywhere.


Let’s find them!

There is a mug on the table.


What number do you see?
I see a nine on the mug.

There is a plant under the window.


What number do you see?
I see a six on the plant.

There is a doghouse.
What number do you see?
I see many threes on the roof.
Unit 3 A Silly Pajama Party

Nora and her friends have a pajama party.


“Let’s put on silly pajamas,” Nora says.

Nora jumps on the sofa.


She wears kangaroo pajamas.

Jimmy stands next to the plant.


He wears giraffe pajamas.

Amy crawls on the floor.


She wears lizard pajamas.

“Look at Fluffy!” Jimmy says.


Fluffy wears cat pajamas.

Fluffy is a cat today!


Unit 4 Our Grain Maracas

Jill, Alan, and Sally make instruments.

Jill opens a bottle.


She puts corn in the bottle.
She paints the bottle brown.

Alan opens a bottle.


He puts beans in the bottle.
He paints the bottle orange.

Sally opens a bottle.


She puts rice in the bottle.
She paints the bottle purple.

Shake! Shake! Shake!


Making grain maracas is fun!
Unit 5 Billy, the Secret Agent

Billy is a secret agent.


He has a special mission today.

Billy gets in a red car.


He drives to the train station.

Billy gets on a blue train.


He rides to the sea.

Billy gets on an orange boat.


He sails to a secret island.

Billy gets in a purple rocket.


Surprise! He is an astronaut today!
Unit 6 Strawberry Juice

Three children are at a strawberry farm.

Bob picks some strawberries.


His strawberries are green.

Kate picks some strawberries.


Her strawberries are rotten.

Beth picks some strawberries.


Her strawberries are ripe.

Now, they make strawberry juice.


Bob’s juice is sour.
Kate’s juice is bitter.
Beth’s juice is sweet.

They all taste Beth’s juice.


Yum! It is very delicious!
Unit 7 My Sleepy Teacher

Mr. Jones is our new teacher.

We study math on Monday.


Mr. Jones is smart.

We play outside on Tuesday.


Mr. Jones is strong.

We sing songs on Wednesday.


Mr. Jones is loud.

We read stories on Thursday.


Mr. Jones is funny.

We listen to music on Friday.


Hee-hee! Mr. Jones snores!

We have so much fun with him.


Unit 8 Making a Volcano

Some students are in science class.


“Let’s make a volcano!” Miss Adams says.

Sally has clay.


She molds the volcano.

Jason has baking soda.


He puts it into the volcano.

Andy has red and yellow paint.


He drops it into the volcano.

Luis has vinegar.


“Time to pour,” Miss Adams says.

Luis pours the vinegar.


Kaboom! The volcano explodes!
Unit 9 A Pet for Karen

Karen and her mom are at a pet store.


Karen wants a pet.

“How about a hamster?” her mom asks.


“It’s too small,” Karen says.

“How about a puppy?” her mom asks.


“It’s too loud,” Karen says.

“How about a kitten?” her mom asks.


“It’s too furry,” Karen says.

“Mom, how about this?” Karen asks.


“No way, Karen! Its skin is too cold!”
Unit 10 Amazing Jobs

There are amazing jobs in the world.

Steve is an ice cream taster.


He tastes ice cream all day.
What a sweet job!

Ryan is a waterslide tester.


He goes down waterslides all day.
What an exciting job!

Kelly is a model builder.


She plays with blocks all day.
What a fun job!

Which job do you like most?


Unit 11 Eggshells with Hair

Children plant seeds.


They bring empty eggshells.

Sara draws a funny face on her eggshell.


Cal draws a silly face on his eggshell.
Eric draws a happy face on his eggshell.

Sara puts dirt in the eggshells.


Cal puts seeds in the eggshells.
Eric waters the seeds in the eggshells.

The seeds grow.


Look! The eggshells have hair now!
Unit 12 Jackie’s Missing Umbrella

Jackie can’t find her umbrella.


Jackie and her friends go to the lost and found.

David looks on a desk.


Many books are on the desk.

Jackie looks in a box.


A jump rope is in the box.

Steve looks under a chair.


Old shoes are under the chair.

“Here it is!” Kelly says.


Jackie’s umbrella is behind the door.
Unit 13 The Home Run

Children play baseball.

Tom has a ball and a glove.


He throws the ball.

Sally has a bat.


She swings the bat.

Jack has a glove and a whistle.


He catches the ball.
He blows and shouts. “Strike!”

Tom throws the ball again.


Sally hits the ball.
The ball flies!
Jack blows and shouts. “Home run!”
Unit 14 The Big Cheese

James feels very hungry.


He finds a big piece of cheese.
He can’t push the cheese.
It is too heavy.

James cuts the cheese in half.


He can’t pull the cheese.
It is still heavy.

James cuts the cheese in half again.


He can carry the cheese.
It is not heavy.

James arrives at home.


Burp! Now he feels happy.
Unit 15 How to Tell Time

Clocks tell time.

The short hand is at 3.


The long hand is at 12.
It’s 3 o’clock.

The short hand is at 12.


The long hand is at 1.
It’s 12:05.

What time is it now?


The short hand is between 8 and 9.
The long hand is at 6.
It’s 8:30.

Yikes! Time for school!


Unit 16 Becky’s Balloon Trip

Becky flies in a balloon.

Becky flies over a valley.


She sees sheep in the valley.

Becky flies over a lake.


She sees ducks on the lake.

Becky flies over a mountain.


She sees big rocks on the mountain.

Becky flies over a river.


She sees boats on the river.

Now she lands on a hill.


What a nice trip!
