What does the bubble want the rock to do? Why?
The bubble wants the rock to make way for him because the
bubble calls himself to be the fairest thing floating on the sea
whereas the clumsy rock has blocked his way.
pleasantly tells that the bubble has to go some other way as
the rock has not stirred for many years Great waves and fierce
winds also cannot overthrow the rock's sturdy form.
At the rock's answer to go some other way, the waves laugh
and the sea birds keep on looking so the bubble gets angry.
Saying that the rock shall move for the bubble as the bubble
is not at all afraid of the rock, the bubble rudely dashes at the

of the poem?
At the end of the poem, the birds advise their little ones never
to be head strong, rude and vain like the bubble who resorts
to violence to gain the Object. The tittle ones should be like
the rock steadfast, true, strong, cheerful and firm against
wrong.1. What qualities are assigned to the bubble and the rock in
the poem? Why?
Ans. : The poem ‘The Rock And The Bubble’ focuses on the impact
of vanity, boastfulness. The bubble, calling itself to be the fairest thing
floating on the sea, having rainbow-robe and crown of light and
glittering form, wants the rock to make way for it. The bubble fails to
realize that the rock is huge and the bubble is very small and
insignificant in comparison to the rock. Failing to realize its transitory
nature, the bubble tries to compete with the strong and powerful
rock. In the end, the bubble dashes itself against the rock to move it
and breaks.
- The rock is very firm but very gentle so the rock pleasantly tells
the bubble that it is impossible for it to move as the great waves or
fierce winds also cannot make it move so the bubble should go by
other way.
The poem clearly shows that the bubble is headstrong, rude
and vain so it cannot realize the strength of others. On the other
hand, the rock is steadfast, strong but still kind and cheerful and
standing firm against the wrong.
2. Comment of the following lines : ‘wiser you'll be / For the
lesson learned / To-day by the sea’.
Ans. : The lines given are the concluding lines of the poem where
the sea-birds are advising the bird siblings about whose example they
should follow to become truly wise in life. This is actually the moral of
the poem.
After seeing the entire incident between the rock and the
bubble and hearing their conversation, this advice has been given so
it carries a great significance. The vain bubble unnecessarily disputes
with the huge and firm rock about giving way. Though the rock talks
to the bubble pleasantly and gently, the bubble's vanity remains in
tact. The laughter of waves and the sea-birds watching everythingf

hart his vanity and in its anger, the bubble forgetting the strength of
the rock dashes against the rock and: breaks.
So the sea-birds advise the bird lings not to be headstrong,
rude and vain like the bubble but they should be steadfast, strong,
cheerful, and firm like the rock.
We should remember that vanity has its own fall. So it is always
better to be firm in viewpoint, observant and considerate towards
others.
