SCHOOL OBSERVATION REPORT
In the month of May. I had the opportunity of visiting the Shri Balaji Senior
Secondary School, Jant as a part of our School Observation Internship. The
primary objective of the internship was to gain real experience in school teaching
and to understand the overall working culture of the school. The week-long from
15th May to 20th May internship was highly productive and taught me and my
peers so much about the administrative, infrastructural, academic, and
pedagogical challenges we might face shortly. This enriching experience has
created new perspectives and understanding about the functioning of a school as
well as the role of a teacher in the classroom and outside the classroom.
A group of twelve pupil-teacher trainees under the supervision of our teacher,
Dr. Neha Bishnoi visited the Shri Balaji Senior Secondary School, Jant, and
observed the classes, administration, infrastructure, and overall functioning of the
school. We were divided into numerous groups and sent to various classes to
attend the lessons delivered by the expert teachers of the Shri Balaji Senior
Secondary School, Jant. The warm hospitality of the school management was
surprising and revealed the excellent culture of the school. During the course of
our week-long visit, we were introduced to the various challenges, intricacies as
well as Joys of being a part of the Shri Balaji Senior Secondary School, Jant
Fraternity. The Chairman Of School Shri Kailash Kaushik, took time out of her
busy schedule to give us insights into the school's culture and also discussed with
us various challenges faced by the academia today. Moreover, he even asked us
for our input and suggestions about the school. The following report is a detailed
record of our experience at the Shri Balaji Senior Secondary School, Jant.

ABOUT SHRI BALAJI SENIOR SECONDARY
SCHOOL, JANT: -
BALAJI SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL was established in 1989 by the Chairman Shri
Kailash Kaushik. School was affiliated with Haryana board .BALAJI SENIOR SEC.
SCHOOL was situated at a very suitable location for learning environment with
greenery all around the school. Balaji senior secondary school is built across an
area of 10000 m2.
Shri Kailash Kaushik is a very cheerful and cordial man who cooperated with us in
every activity of our school observation. He provided us the time table,
acquainted us with fellow teachers and students and also told us everything
about the school that we wanted to know.
Total number of staff in school is 19, among which 17 are teaching staff and 2 are
peon and gatekeeper, both of whom were from the nearby village and did their
duty efficiently. Among the teaching staff out of 17, 10 teachers were female and
7 of them were male.Mr. Akash who also taught Maths at school was also the
principal of the school and was the most qualified teacher in the school. We asked
the chairman about the recruitment process of teachers in the school and he told
us that every teacher in school was at least graduated. For teacher recruitment
from class 6th to 10th B.Ed. was compulsory along with graduation and for
teachers of senior secondary (11th and 12th) post-graduation was necessary.
Mr. Akash, the principal of school was a double master’s degree holder with one
post-graduation degree in Maths and another in English.
There were a total of 300 students in school out of which 180 were boys and 120
were girls.

MORNING ASSEMBLY
On the first day of school observation in BALAJI SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL
along with my batchmates we attended the morning assembly. Students were
arranged in the queues according to their class. It was quite nostalgic and similar
to our old days of morning assemblies and reminded us of our old memories.
Morning assembly is an integral part of the school’s schedule of BALAJI SENIOR
SECONDARY SCHOOL. The school bell rings at 8:00 a.m. then all the students and
teachers gather in the front of the school building for the morning assembly.
Students arrange themselves into columns according to their classes from VI to X
according to their heights.
A well-organized morning assembly establishes a positive tone for teachers and
students and encourages community involvement, without cutting into precious
instructional time.
It is essential to understand that morning assembly is not just about standing in
long queues and singing prayers or the national anthem, but it’s something
beyond just prayers. All the activities carried out in the morning assembly by the
school staff and students have a great influence in every point of life. The positive
effects of attending school assemblies can be felt throughout life.
Assembly Starts At: 8 AM
Prayer for assembly: Om jai Jagdish hare,
Types of prayers in school: Hindi Prayer, spiritual prayer
National Anthem: Jana Gana Mana. Every day national anthem is sung by the
students.
Thoughts of the day: One student said the thought of the day in assembly and a
teacher elaborates it to the whole assembly.
Teacher addressing the students: After all the proceedings teacher any one of the
teacher address students and give an informative speech about various things
maybe as a current issue or the current co-curricular activities that are to be held
in school.
During our visit we also came to knew about a new initiative taken by the
chairman of the school in which they started asking in morning assembly on a
daily basis if there was birthday of someone on that day and then any student
having their birthday was brought forward, given a chocolate by teachers while
whole assembly wished the student and sung happy birthday for the birthday
boy/girl.

INFRASTRUCTURE
School building was L shaped and consisted of 2 floors. The upper floor was used
for primary education. (1rst to 5th class).Ground floor was used for education of
class 6th to 12th.Total number of classrooms in building-14.All rooms were in
good condition and 2 fans and a tube light was installed in every classroom.
Every classroom had 2 gates (one in front and one in back). One blackboard was
there in every classroom which was not movable and was pretty small in size.
I think the blackboard could have been a little bigger as teacher continuously
needed to wipe off content for writing new content which consumed unnecessary
extra time of class. Each room was facilitated with one CCTV camera.
CCTV
All the classrooms and school campus were under CCTV surveillance and CCTV
cameras were installed all over the campus.
Presence of such monitoring ensures maintenance of discipline and preventing
any kind of mishappening in advance.
Other facilities - Wi-Fi
School campus was also facilitated with Wi-Fi facility.
In this tech savvy generation and immense use of internet Wi-Fi have become a
necessity in almost all the offices and educational institutions.
Any student in need could also access Wi-Fi with the permission of respective
teacher.

TIME TABLE
Time table was not there in the printed for, neither it was pinned on any notice
board for students. Although a time table was there in the rudimentary form,
made on a blank sheet which was provided to us on the very first day of our
observation and with the help of that we all went to lectures of pour respective
pedagogy subjects. I think that a timetable is very necessary in printed form which
should be pinned on notice board for the comfort of both teaching staff and
students so that they can be updated with the ongoing lectures in school.
10 | P a g e
CURRICULUM
Balaji senior secondary school followed curriculum provided by NCERT and CBSE.
All the classes in school used NCERT textbooks for reference and study purpose.
Contents in lectures delivered and assessment were all guided by CBSE
curriculum.
ACTIVITY CALENDAR
There was no specific activity calendar in school. All the activities that were
organized in the school were randomly planned and executed. This could be
improved as there must be a printed activity calendar planned in advance for an
upcoming session and all the activities must be organized and followed according
to the calendar only.

FACILITIES OF SANITATION AND CLEANLINESS
Provision is made in the school for Separate toilets for boys and girls. Also, toilets
for teaching staff are present.
School was cleaned on a regular basis and sweepers were appointed for the job.
There was not a single piece of garbage thrown on the campus randomly and
dustbins were installed at corners of school for disposal of waste. Students were
taught about the importance of keeping the surroundings clean and not to litter
on school campus.
12 | P a g e
COMMON ROOM
School has two common room for students. Common rooms are used for
activities such as group work, committee meetings, and other school activities.
The common room is spacious enough to accommodate the students from one
classroom, i.e., both sections, at a time. The room is well ventilated and well-lit as
the windows are glass. The electricity supply to the room is sufficient to run all
the electric appliances like tube lights, fans, projectors, microphones, and
speakers.
The common room can be used on both sides and both ways of manual and
digital. On one hand, there is a small stage for the performers and speakers, while
the presentations can be done through digital equipment. The work of students is
displayed on the side walls of the classroom. There are chairs, tables, and
podiums made available for any event accordingly. The chairs were being
arranged for the teachers while the students were made to sit on the carpet.
13 | P a g e
CANTEEN
There is no facility of canteen in the school. Students bring their own lunchbox
from their home and eat it in the lunch break. Some parents even come to school
to deliver lunchboxes to their wards.
WATER FACILITIES
The provision of water at schools is one of the highly effective practices in
increasing access and learning outcomes. In addition to the necessity of water to
maintain personal and environmental hygiene, reducing student dehydration in
schools has been associated with improved cognitive abilities.
According to a recent report by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), the
Mahendergarh district of Haryana state has been identified as a Red Alert zone of
high fluoride. Therefore, schools need to provide quality water for drinking. On
the other hand, 14 out of 22 districts of Haryana are battling a water crisis. The
main usage of water in schools is for drinking, washroom disposal, cleaning, food
preparation, recreational purposes, laboratories, and gardening.
Drinking water facility was efficient in the school. Pots were being used for storing
water bottles could be filled up from the pots as well because nozzles were
installed in some of the pots.
Quality of water was good and usage of pots ensured that students are getting
cool, healthy and disease-free water.
14 | P a g e
ELECTRICITY FACILITY
Every classroom is facilitated with 2 fans and tube lights. In case of light cut, there
is facility of backup by inverters. Every classroom had adequate supply of
electricity and all the appliances were working perfectly.
FIRST AID ROOM
There was no first aid room in the school campus. Although there was a first aid
box which consisted of:
Even though i think that every school must definitely have a first aid room where
students can be taken to in case of emergency for example if someone fainted or
if someone starts feeling immense pain all of a sudden.
First aid room should be provided with bed and a fan and should be equipped
with all the emergency medicines and medical equipment.
STORE ROOM
1. There was a storage room in the campus which was mostly filled with
uniforms of students.
2. Their unchecked copies.
3. A monitor and a CPU.
4. Student’s diaries.
5. A pile of old sketchbooks of students.
15 | P a g e
GAMES & SPORTS FACILITIES
Balaji senior secondary school was pretty active when it came to sports.
Some of the sports equipment we observed during our visits was:
Basketball
Football
Volleyball
Badminton and shuttle cock
Hockey sticks
Punching bag for boxing
According to chairman following games were organized in the school-
Kabaddi
Race
Volleyball
Football
Hockey
Badminton
Boxing bag
Additionally, kabaddi competition was organized with other schools as well and
prizes were awarded to winning teams.
16 | P a g e
PLAYGROUND IN SCHOOL
Playground is large enough so 2 games could be played at once in it.
Most of the sports equipment was available like badminton, shuttle, and
volleyball. Basketball, Football, Hockey sticks etc. so that students could utilize
them in their games period.
During our observation period heat waves were going on so we didn’t get to see
playground utilization first hand but on interaction with students we were
ensured that playground is utilized and all the sports equipment are provided to
students.
YOGA
Yoga classes were organized 40 days in a year. Mr. Rahul Yadav was appointed as
yoga instructor for the school who took yoga classes once every week.
Yoga helps in nurturing a healthy body mind and soul. It is one of the greatest
tools of all round development as instructed in educational philosophy of
Mahatma Gandhi.
We were glad to see that school was taking an initiative for organizing yoga
classes.
17 | P a g e
LIBRARY
There is no proper library in the school; instead there is a bookshelf with some
reference books for different classes on it, which could be issued by students.
Books on shelf were not kept properly and were stacked in a very disorganized
manner. Dust was piling up on the top of books.
All the books on the shelf were from the same publication (Deepak) and there are
not many options for students to choose from.
18 | P a g e
LABORATORY
There was no facility of any kind of lab in the school, be it Science lab, Maths lab,
Social science lab or ICT lab.
This was one of the major shortcomings of the school.
•Without a science laboratory, science learning would never be as fruitful as with
a laboratory. Science is all about practical and experiential learning and if a school
fails to provide hands on learning in science, then the students ambitious towards
learning science would never be able to reach their maximum potential.
•A maths lab is also very much required in a school for practical learning of
mathematics and hands on learning with instruments.
Sometimes students may get fed up with continuously solving problems and just
studying theoretical maths.in these cases it is necessary to motivate them by
changing their learning experiences once in a while by switching to practical
mode.
•A social science lab is a huge reservatory for resources like all sorts of maps,
globe and different charts which makes learning social science much easier and
comfortable. Learning by colourful charts and globe is also psychologically very
pleasing to students and thus having a social science lab is also very important in
a school.
•In this rapidly advancing technological generation, information and media
literacy is very important and therefore knowledge of computer and digital media
is emphasized strongly at school stage these days.
ICT lab is very helpful in providing students with all the necessary digital resources
and helping students stay up to date with rapid technological advances.

PREPAREDNESS FOR RESCUE AND
DISASTER MANAGEMENT
Whether a fire threat comes from inside or outside the building, student and staff
safety is the top priority. Smart planning and preparation for various types of fire
threats can help schools prevent fires and, when prevention is not possible,
respond to them appropriately.
Schools should plan before making the buildings ready. This includes having the
proper number of sprinklers, fire alarm pulls, smoke detectors and a fire
extinguisher in the building. There should be a laminated blueprint of the school
at the entrance so that it can help the firefighters navigate inside the school in an
emergency.
The school building has a main entrance and 2 back exits on the ground floor. The
building is a 1-storey building. There are fire extinguishers at every corner of the
staircase of the building. There is also a fire hose near the stairs which could be
connected to the main tank and could be used efficiently in case of a large fire.
The school also organizes drills around once in every2-3 years with the help of
Haryana police so that students could be made aware about emergency
evacuation systems, how to handle situations in case of a natural disaster and
how to use a fire extinguisher.
Suggestions- There should be a smoke detector or, automatic fire alarm, manual
fire alarm pulls on each floor.

LITERARY ACTIVITY
We asked the language teachers if they held any literary activities in school and
they told us that even though they hadn’t organized any literary activity until
now, they were planning on doing so in future.
Organization of literary activities is very essential in school as it helps in the
holistic development of students.
It helps in increasing command over language, improved communication skills and
increase in confidence.
By organizing essay competition over sensitive topics, awareness of students may
also be increased towards sensitive and critical issues going on in the world.
FIELD TRIP
School organized field trip around 2 to 3 times in a year. There are not much
educational resource centres on here so most of the trips were spiritual,
entertaining or natural in nature. Some of the recent field trips were-
1. Khudana temple
2. A fair organized in Pali (baba shri Ramdas fair)-organized once every year.
21 | P a g e
CULTURAL ACTIVITY
School was pretty active regarding organization of cultural activities.
Some of the recently organized events were
Rangoli competition
Rakhi making competition
Dance competition
A 20 days dance workshop for students was also being organized in the school
while our observation period and we got to see it first-hand.
We interacted with the dance instructor who was sent by Haryana Kala Parishad,
and we observed the dance training of students.
Students were very enthusiastic and zealous throughout the session and their
energy gave even us the goosebumps.
School also organized dance and rangoli competitions at Saturdays in some weeks
to enrich creativity and nurture healthy competitive spirit in students.
ANNUAL DAY
The school organizes annual day every year.
In annual day following activities takes place: -
1. Prize distribution
2. Monetary prize distribution
3. Dance performances
4. Singing and other cultural performances
5. Motivational speech by chairman
6. Overall annual day is a colourful day for students as they enjoy the various
performances and meritorious students are awarded with prizes for their
hard work and efforts.

TRANSPORTATION FACILITY & VECHILE
PARKING
A problematic parking lot is a breeding ground for parent complaints and a danger
to students, teachers, and staff. Balaji senior secondary school had not very well
demarcated but specific spot for parking of vehicles.
The school’s parking lot has limited space, but it is more than enough to
accommodate vehicles of all the teachers and student’s bicycles.
There was a separate space for parking of school bus.
School transport is the safest way for kids to commute to the school. Keeping the
convenience and safety of the students in mind, Balaji senior secondary school
have one bus and one EECO van for picking up children in morning and dropping
them off as well.
This ensures that even if a student lives a bit far from the school, he/she have
access to easy transportation to school.
This also helps parents of little students who can’t drop their children to school
due to work.
Facility of transportation is very comfortable for journey of students and it’s also
very helpful for the parents as they can rest assured that their child is travelling
safely.
23 | P a g e
SUGGESTION BOX
There was no suggestion box in the school campus and if someone had any issue,
they have to contact principal or chairman directly for the redressal.
However, most of the times students may want to suggest changes or
modifications anonymously and at those times suggestion box comes really
handy.
We suggested the school staff to install a suggestion box and make students
aware of it so that students can have an equal and active part in development of
school and its activities.

CONCLUSION
To conclude I can say it was the most gratifying experience in my life. Through this
phase of the internship, I got an opportunity to contribute a little from my
capacity to the school. The challenges helped me to find new route. I can able to
bring transformation in me.
Overall, Infrastructure of the school was enough for this small village area and
short number of students. Curriculum of school directed by NCERT and some
extracurricular activity also organized by school authority.
Daily morning assembly was so nice and inspiring, I felt Patriotic, Spiritual, and
Energized on that time.
All secondary and middle school required a Laboratory and Many types of Lab but
there was no Laboratory and Lab available.
There was no proper library.
Some emergency facility available but not enough for a Senior Secondary School.
All faculty of school so nice and humble. They were highly qualified and skilled.
They were
so cooperative and collaborative with students and with us also.
I know it is not the ending of my practice. It is just the beginning. There is a lot
that I still have to learn and to go through. I thank our supervisor and other
teachers because they were in solidarity with me. They showed me how to get
materials and gave me good energy all the time.
The internship programme was an effective one. I learned all the skill to be used
in the class, along with the professional ethics, values and competence to be
required.
It was a great experience for me as well as one of the best exposures I
experienced. The knowledge, opportunity, experience and exposure which I
receive during this internship is surely appreciating.
