1. Introduction to the Module and Module Objective In an age when relationships between individuals and organizations are getting more and more complex, it is not enough to only have an excellent IQ. Scoring high marks in subjects is not the only criteria for success in personal or professional life. The ability to deal with one's feelings and feelings of the others in any given situation helps one to complement academic intelligence/cognitive capacities (IQ) with humane understanding of issues. Steven R. Covey's book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Free Press: 1989) is a very powerful book that clearly directs how one can bring about a positive and significant change in oneself. The module will help the students to fine tune their attitude, values, beliefs, motivation, time management, win/win approach and other skills sets so that they will be able to deal with different situations diligently and responsibly. These skills will empower them to understand who they are and how best they can come across as competent managers in any given professional situation. The key to an organizations success is its people. Its imperative that employees are effective, both personally and professionally. Participants learn how to see, think, and act more effectively in order to get better results, take responsibility, and become more proactive. Each of the session would have areas of development as an end deliverable. To develop each of the skills activities and session would be used. The module uses many activities and interactive sessions to highlight the learning of the sessions. There are readings used from work place scenarios to emphasize the points highlighted by Covey. It also provides the skills and techniques required towards the same. The complete module will be delivered across in 15 sessions: an Introductory session followed by 7 lectures and 7 seminars [1+14] covering a total of 18.75 contact hours.
