you to continue the lesson on the installation of OS, you are going to explore Microsoft
Windows Server 2008 R2 installation.

What is It

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 is a network operating system (NOS) used in providing
services to the local area network or wider network. The services of NOS that the OS can
provide are Web server, DHCP server, DNS server, File server, and others. In using the OS,
you must consider the hardware specification requirement before installing it, or else the
installation will fail. The OS requirement is written on the cover of the installation disc or seen
in the manual. Let us see the system requirements below.

Exceeding the minimum and recommended hardware requirements enhance the performance
of the computer. In installing OS, you can use a bootable Windows installation DVD or flash
drive. Technicians always do clean installation of OS which removes all the content of the
hard drive. It is also known as fresh installation. However, you can upgrade the existing OS
by choosing the Upgrade during the installation process. Now that you know already the
hardware requirements and the type of installation. Are you ready to install the Windows
operating system?
Fantastic, let us begin.
Windows Server 2008 R2 Installation
Below are the proper procedures in installing Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system.

1. Turn on your system.

2. Set the boot order of your computer.


If you are using a DVD bootable disc, set the first boot to DVD; if you are using a bootable
USB drive, set the first boot to USB.

3. Insert the Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD-ROM into your DVD-ROM drive or connect the
bootable USB flash drive to the USB port.

4. Restart the system.


To restart the system, press the reset button on the front panel or press Ctrl + Alt + Del.
The DVD-ROM or USB flash drive starts. A message from your screen "Windows is
loading files …" appears.

5. Select a language and other


options from the drop-down lists
and then click the Next button.

6. Click the Install now button to start the installation.


7. Select the Windows Server R2
Standard (although there are
other editions of the Windows
operating system in the menu)
and then click Next.
8. Read the license terms carefully.
If you agree, tick “I accept the
license terms” then click the Next
button.

9. Select the type of installation


Select the clean installation
which is the Custom
(advanced).
10. Select disk drive where
partitions will be created then
click the Drive Option
(advanced).

11. Click New; enter a partition size


or you may leave it as default.
Click Apply.

12. Select the partition created;


click Format, then click the
Next button.
13. Automatically start the
installation
In this stage, it copies the
windows files, expands the
windows files, installs
features, installs updates,
and completes
the installation from the
OS installer.

14. After the Windows Server


2008 R2
installation is
completed, the following
dialog box will notify you to
change the
password before you log
on. Click OK.
15. Type New Username and Password on the text box and hit enter. If there are no password
and username, you cannot
log into the OS.

16. If this message appears, click OK to log on.


17. Congratulations! You
successfully installed the
Windows Server 2008 R2.
