Let's Begin!
Multigrade Classroom- simply mmeans that there is more than one grade in the room, working
independently or together, with each student working towards their individual curriculum goals for
their grade level.
Single Grade Classroom- a classroom situation in which students of one grade level participate in
all of their classes in the same classroom under the direction of one teacher.
Objectives
Identify the common method may a teacher apply from a single grade level to a
multigrade level.
Explain how whole class instruction appropriate for a multigrade class.
LET'S DIG DEEPER
Whole Class Teaching is a typical and convinient method of teaching in a multigrade class
since the teacher displays to the students as a group.
The teacher may consider the subject integration, provide materials, and the mechanics of how
students will be evaluated while developing and implementing full class activities (Konstantinos,
2002).
The form of teaching in which the teacher select a concept or skill, choose an activity to introduce the
concept ang skill, and arrange relevant activities for the entire class has more interaction with all of
the students. In addition, this strategy is effective in a variety of activities such as storytelling, playing,
singing, dancing and doing arts and crafts.
However, the concept of differentiated instruction can be use to a whole class
teaching technique. A multigrade teacher provide similar activities for the entire class but
evaluation is multi-levelled or differentiated due to the varying expectations of the learners group.
Meaning to say, learners must be evaluated based on their performance in relation to their level of
knowledge of the subject.
As we already known, and as it has been mentioned before to our previous
topic, A Multigrade school, covers a wide range of ability, age and interests, but working
together as a completely mixed group for part of the day, as this is the situation in Whole Class
Teaching, can help students to develop cognitive skills and facilitate their learning as well as to
improve their relationships with each other.
