Abortion Script
Good morning, I am (Introduce yourselves)
And we are the side who supports the legalization of abortion.
Abortion is a choice that should not be taken away from women. Women who desire to end their
pregnancy can receive medical care through abortion. When our country made abortion illegal,
they also promoted the unsafe procedure of it. Filipina women deserve abortion education that
enlightens them on the topic. Filipina women have the right to choose whether to keep their
pregnancy or have it terminated.
•If they are pertaining to LAW:
Abortion is criminalized here in the Philippines, but our law is based on our religion. We are a
christian country and do you know that Spain, the country who introduced us to christianism,
legalized abortion back in 2010?
If Christian countries can legalize abortion, then why not Philippines too?
•If they are pertaining to RELIGION:
Religion is a belief and everyone has different beliefs right? Abortion is considered as a taboo in
the Philippines because majority of citizens here are Christians, but that doesn't mean that
those beliefs should control women's choice.
•If they are pertaining to HUMAN RIGHTS:
According to Human Rights Watch, Access to safe and legal abortion is a matter of human
rights. Authoritative interpretations of international human rights law establish that denying
women, girls, and other pregnant people access to abortion is a form of discrimination and
jeopardizes a range of human rights.
Countries have obligations to respect, protect, and fulfill human rights, including those
concerning sexual and reproductive health and autonomy. Where safe and legal abortion
services are unreasonably restricted or not fully available, many other internationally protected
human rights may be at risk, including rights to nondiscrimination and equality; to life, health,
and information; to freedom from torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment; to privacy
and bodily autonomy and integrity; to decide the number and spacing of children; to liberty; to
enjoy the benefits of scientific progress; and to freedom of conscience and religion.
Women's freewill is a human right. Banning abortion in the Philippines just restricted the human
rights and safety of women.
•If they are pertaining to MURDER:
Other scientists and doctors said that fetuses inside the womb are considered not alive yet
because it doesn't have heartbeat.
•If they are pertaining that ABORTION IS UNSAFE TO WOMEN'S BODY:
It is unsafe especially here in the Philippines because it is Illegal. When our law criminalized
abortion, it leads to unsafe procedure of it. Many healers or mananambal performed the
abortion, instead of the professionals like doctors.
So if the abortion is legalized in the Philippines, it will not just promote the safety standards of it,
but it will also lead to proper abortion education for women.
•If they are pertaining to ADOPTION:
Not every children were given a chance to have a new family, which is why they fall into poverty,
child labor, and even being a beggar in roads and streets. Like abortion, adoption is also a really
long process to do.
ADDED EVIDENCES:
•RAPE VICTIMS
Here in the Philippines, there are still growing rate of non-consensual sex such as rape.
Because abortion is illegal, victims have no choice but to bore the child. Based on research,
many victims of rape came from poor families, which leads to other problems in our society such
as poverty, child labor, and malnutrition, if they don't have the capacity to give their child the
financial needs.
If rape victims can't handle the pressure and trauma they experienced, and they want to
terminate their pregnancy, then they should be allowed to do it.
Being a parent is a responsibility, but there are things that should be considered:
-You must be financially stable and you must have the capacity to give your child a mental and
emotional support.
Rape is a crime, but abortion should not be considered as one, because it is a choice, a right,
and a health care for women.
•TEENAGE PREGNANCY
If the pregnancy happened to be consensual then they should be given a choice whether they
want to abort it or keep it.
-Based on Adebayo Adesomo, a doctor from University of Texas Health Science, pregnancy is
riskier than abortion.
“Pregnancy is not a disease, even one that is otherwise uncomplicated can go unexpectedly
awry. The changes that the body undergoes during pregnancy that are needed to support an
ongoing gestation are still physiologically akin to running a marathon. All of an expecting
mother’s organs and bodily systems are put to a nine-month endurance test. The work of the
heart and lungs increases by 30 to 50 percent (or even more in a twin pregnancy), the kidneys
filter more blood, the immune system adjusts, metabolic demands increase substantially, and
there are myriad other changes. The way any given individual’s body reacts to these changes is
unpredictable.
Even a seemingly “safe” pregnancy is not without significant risk. The decision of whether to
face pregnancy’s risks of complications and death should be left to the pregnant person alone.
Not to their congressperson. Not to their governor. Not even to their family or physician, who
can nevertheless provide support and information. The surest path to having healthy babies is
ensuring healthy and willing mothers. We must fight to keep the rights to pregnancy-related
decisions solely among those who bear the consequences.”
•POVERTY
The Rate of Poverty and Overpopulation are growing and one of the possible solutions of it is
abortion. We already said that being a parent requires to be financially stable.
