‘Robinson Crusoe’ and ‘The lord of the Rings’

‘Robinson Crusoe’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ are adventure stories but The Lord
of the Rings we will put it as a fantasy story so we can compare them to each
other. Both of these stories are amazing to read and even to watch especially The
Lord of the Rings. It is important to know how to compare the different genres
because it will help the student with literature a lot. Dealing with stories and
comparing them is something fun and helpful, also it gives the student the ability
to differentiate between the different genres and elements. This comparison
essay will focus on many points between ‘Robinson Crusoe’ and ‘The Lord of the
Rings’, and these points are the plot, characters, theme, sittings, and morals.

The plot in both stories is amazing and interesting to read or even to watch. In the
Robinson Crusoe story, the plot started when the storm got stronger and the ship
started to sink, and found himself on a deserted island. That is the beginning of
the plot of the story. Or we can easily say a man struggles to survive after his ship
sunk in the sea after a big storm. On the other hand, The Lord of the Rings story is
much complicated and full of details. A small Hobbit known as Frodo has been
thrown on a wonderful adventure when he has selected the role of destroying the
Ring, which is created by the Dark Lord Sauron. He and three warriors Gandalf,
Boromir, and Aragorn.

The characters in the stories are full of details and they are described well. The
protagonist or the main character in Robinson Crusoe is Robinson Crusoe himself,
and he is the narrator of the novel who got shipwrecked. The other characters are
Friday (The dog), Xury (Once an assistant to Crusoe), The Widow ( a friend to
Robinson Crusoe ), the Portuguese Sea Captain (who helped save Robinson
Crusoe from slavery), Robinson Crusoe's father (a merchant named Kreutznaer).
On the other hand, we have The Lord of the Rings and there are a lot of
characters but we will focus on the main ones. There are a lot of protagonists,
they are Gandelf, Aragorn, and Boromir. The main antagonist is Sauron, he rules
the area of Mordor and has the ambition of ruling the whole of Middle-earth.

The theme is one of the important elements of literature because it shows the
main idea or underlying meaning a writer explores in a novel, short story, or other
literary work. In Robinson Crusoe's story, the themes are The Importance of Self-
Awareness, Society, Individuality, Isolation, and Mistakes. On the other side, the
theme in The Lord of the Rings' story is War Between Good and Evil, Lust for
Power, and Friendship.

The setting is the time and place in which the story takes place. The meaning of
setting can also include social standings, weather, historical era, and details about
important surroundings. Robinson Crusoe's story begins in mid-17th-century York,
with a short description of Robinson Crusoe’s early years, then it moves to the
Moorish port of Sallee, where Crusoe is held after he got caught by pirates, and
later to Brazil, where he repaired a planter after his escape. On the other hand,
The Lord of the Rings is set in Middle-earth, a fictional world designed by Tolkien.
Mystical creatures such as hobbits, orcs, trolls, ents, elves, wangs, wizards,
dragons, dwarves, and men populate middle-earth. Middle-earth is a mysterious
world in which imagination rules, but it exists very much like a "real" community,
with political and economic problems and power conflicts. Each of the species
that populate this world has its areas and are distinct from one another.

A moral is a message conveyed or a lesson to be learned from a story or event.

The moral may be left to the reader or viewer to decide for themselves or maybe
explicitly encapsulated in a maxim. In Robinson Crusoe's story, one of the morals
that can be easily seen in the story are Hard-working (when Crusoe works hard to
build a good and safe home that will shield him from bad weather and his
enemies), Loyalty, Faithfulness, and gratitude. On the other hand, The Lord of the
rings' story has many morals and one of them is true friendship at its best
(Arragon and Legolas have not given up on looking for Frodo again), Fellowship is
More Valuable Than Gold, and Sometimes We Must be the Sacrifice.

Both of these stories are amazing to watch and read. Every student can learn
something from reading one of these stories whether it is educational like
learning grammar and vocabulary or it can be for entertainment or personal value
like understanding the mistakes and acknowledging the literature elements. One
of the best stories for me is The Lord of the Rings and I'm happy to talk about it
and compare it with another story. Children are going to love reading about both
of these stories because each one of them gives a different perspective of
literature and they will appreciate that. Omani Children are going to enjoy reading
about both of them especially The Lord of the rings because it is full of amazing
characters and events. Both of the stories are easy to read and understand, and
that is why children are going to love them. The Lord of the Rings story is for the
age group around 8-10 because they can understand the plot and the characters
easily, and for Robinson Crusoe story the age group is similar to the first story
because they can understand and highlight the story easily.
