DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES AS A
COATING INSPECTOR
Responsible for implementation and maintaining QCP & ITP program and schedules throughout the
project related to painting work.
Receiving inspection of the materials with verification of MTC, purchase order and required certificates
& ensuring the storage and handling of paints and abrasives as per manufacturer recommendations.
Study project specification and obtain client approval for proposed material.
Ensuring the use of calibrated inspection instruments. Witnessing, verifying/ ensuring that all blasting
and painting and other related ancillaries are calibrated.
Witnessing/ verifying abrasives, paints, curing agent and thinner to be used are in accordance with
manufacturer recommendation and or project specification as per applicable code requirements.
Performing periodic inspection of products stored in the warehouse and check whether storage and
preservation methods are as per manufacturer instructions.
Consult, coordinate, clarify with engineering/ design departments regarding coating systems to be
applied if any conflict aroused.
Ensure applicable International standards ISO, NACE, SSPC, ASTM ansd Paint product sheet,MSDS
available in the site.
Scheduling of sand blasting and painting activities of fabricated items i.e., pressure vessels columns ,
steel strucutures.
Checking of weather conditions, surface temprature, ambient temperature, dew point, relative humidity
prior to start and mid coating/painting activities and when sudden change of weather.
Verifying the spray nozzle tip size and pressure as per requirement of specification.
Verifying the quality of compressed air prior to blasting at start and midpoint of each shift by blotter test.
Pre quality inspection on surface prior to abrasive blasting, removal of hydrocarbon contaminants,oil,
grease etc. Removal of weld spatter, weld slags and other sharp edges.
Inspection of the blast cleaning operation i.e., compressed air pressure by using needle gauge, physical
condition of all equipments and their related ancillaries to ensure safe work.
Inspection of the blast cleaned surface (anchor pattern and surface profile) measure the blasted profile
in accordance with specification requirement.
Conducts test for abrasive conductivity, chloride level, dust assessment.
Inspection of Primer coat, Intermediate coat and Top coat & perform final visual inspection to ensure
the paint applied is free of runs and sags,lumps and other paint related defects.

Witnessing of intermediate WFT and final inspection of DFT reading to ensure required DFT is achieved
as per applicable standards requirements.
Inspection and witnessing of Adhesion test and Holiday testing.
Witness painting system qualifications and operator qualification testing as required.
Preparing daily and weekly progress report.
Performing tool box talk prior to start of work ensuring that fire extinguishers and first aid kit is always
present on site.
Follow the inspection and test plan and check lists and verify the fullfilment of QCP, MS, ITP, client
specifications, IFC drawings and applicable standards.
Verify & ensure maintenance and pressure test of all the equipments and hoses/ calibration of all the
instruments used for measuring and testing.
Ensure the job was carried out with permit to work system and as per the HSE, QA/QC plans.
