CHAPTER 1
The Problem and Its Background
Introduction
Tourism is a broad word that encompasses both demand and
supply and is used in some contexts across the world. Also,
tourism is a phenomenon with no universally agreed
description, owing to the complexity and individualism of
travellers and the activities they choose to engage in.
Tourism is a valuable asset to our country. It determines the
majority reputation, dignity, and general beauty. It reflects
the character of the country. The most common perception
about tourist attractions is that they are mostly visual
experiences that elicit powerful emotions in the visitors. It
appears that a large portion of the profession share this
idealized image of tourist destinations.
Tourism activities means commercial activity that
contributes to the provision of accommodation, catering and
other related tourism ventures and meets the needs of people
who are travelling for leisure or recreational trips. Also,
tourism activities are not only great places to relax and
unwind after a long day at work, but they are also excellent
2
sites for seminars, reminiscences, debuts, wedding
celebrations, and other special events and occasions.
Tourism activities offered in Cabanatuan City, If the
visitors love adventure, they can visit the famous tourist
attraction in Cabanatuan which is the Minalungao National
Park there is a treasure trove of activities here from caving,
bamboo rafting, hiking, trekking to the Cross of 1000-steps,
zip lining, swimming in the river, have a picnic and so on. If
the tourists want to know or deepen their knowledge about
farming or they are into agriculture since Cabanatuan City is
recognized as “Rice Granary of the Philippines” they can visit
the PhilRice, here they will gain experience about agriculture
and get to see what it’s like to be a traditional and modern-
day rice farmer. And lastly if the visitors want to experience
great places to relax, they can visit the Crystal Wave Hotel.
They offered the best amenities such as Wavepool, Mickey Mouse
inspired Olympic size swimming pool and kiddie swimming pool.
Cabanatuan City It is the largest city in Nueva Ecija,
a province recognized as the “Rice Granary of the
Philippines”. Although visitor arrivals are only one important
factor in promoting Cabanatuan City, the proportion of
3
tourists coming to the place is remarkably low, especially
when compared to other places in the Philippines. This
adversity shapes the place image, and thus affects all aspects
necessary to the development of a Cabanatuan City. The name
Nueva Ecija came from Governor-General Fausto Cruzat Y
Gongora, his homeland in Ecija, Seville, Southern Spain since
both were washed by navigable rivers. Being the largest urban
center in Nueva Ecija, Cabanatuan is an ideal place to put up
tourism sites that can offer a variety of tourism activities.
The researchers aims to identify tourism activities
that help to improve site location to gather information
regarding the assessment of tourists on the activities offered
in Cabanatuan Nueva Ecija, and the problems encountered to
generate relevant information that can be used not only in the
