BEFORE SOFTWARE INSTALLATION, READ THIS MANUAL.

This manual contains the installation procedures of the NIDEK IMAGE FILING
SOFTWARE, NAVIS-Lite.

If you encounter any problems or have questions about the software, please contact your
authorized distributor.

・Read the instruction manuals for your computer or Windows, and observe the general
CAUTION rules.

・Adjust the brightness and contrast of the display monitor to the best ones.

・Be sure to connect the AFC-230/210 to the same USB port on the PC that was used at
the time of installation.
Connection error occurs when the AFC-230/210 is connected to any other port. In addition,
reinstallation of the AFC-230/210 or digital camera driver software may be required.

・Do not disconnect the USB cable while the AFC-230/210 is turned on.
Connection error occurs. Restarting the PC may be required.

・Do not set the PC standby mode (screen saver and power off).
In standby mode, capturing by AFC-230/210 is not possible. After recovering from standby
mode, data transmission cannot be performed properly.

・ Set the Windows theme to "Classic".


If the theme is set to other than "Classic", a dialog box or display may be chipped.

: Installation Overview

1.1 Installation Overview

To use NAVIS-Lite for the AFC-230/210, in addition to the NAVIS-Lite software, the two driver software
programs must be installed.
Perform installation in the following order.

1) Digital camera USB driver


Install the software in the standalone PC before connection with the AFC-230/210.

Prepare the installation CD supplied with the digital camera.

* See “1.3 Installing Digital Camera USB Driver” (Page 5) for the details.

2) NAVIS-Lite
Prepare the NAVIS-Lite installation CD.

* See “1.4 Installing NAVIS-Lite” (Page 6) for the details.

3) AFC-230/210 driver
Connect the AFC-230/210 with the PC and start the AFC-230/210 before installing the software.

The setup file is automatically saved to the USB Driver folder in the NAVIS-Lite folder when NAVIS-
Lite is installed.

* See “1.7 Installing AFC-230/210 Driver” (Page 13) for the details.

{NAVIS-Lite operator’s manual


The NAVIS-Lite operator’s manual in a Portable Document File (PDF) format is saved to the
PC during NAVIS-Lite installation. A shortcut is created on the desktop.

• To view and print the NAVIS-Lite operator’s manual in a PDF format, Adobe Reader*1 is
must be installed.
Adobe Reader is a free program from the Adobe Systems Inc.

1.2 System Requirements

NAVIS-Lite runs on PCs using the Windows XP and Windows Vista and Windows 7 OS.
Hardware and memory requirements:

Windows XP Professional (32 bit) SP2 or later


Operating System (OS) Windows Vista (32 bit) Business Edition
Windows 7 Professional (32 bit / 64 bit)
CPU Pentium 4 3.0 GHz or higher
Windows XP: 512 MB or more (1 GB or more is recommended)
Windows Vista: 1 GB or more (2 GB or more is recommended)
RAM
Windows 7 32 bit: 1 GB or more (2 GB or more is recommended)
Windows 7 64 bit: 2 GB or more (3 GB or more is recommended)
HDD 40 GB or more
Monitor resolution SXGA (1280 × 1024 pixel) or higher
Drives CD-ROM drive
One or more Ethernet port (100Base-T or higher)
Others Two or more USB 2.0 ports, mouse
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)

• NAVIS-Lite is software designed specifically for individual connectable imaging test


equipment.
Contact Nidek or your authorized distributor if equipment other than the AFC-230/210 is con-
nected to the PC.
• NAVIS-Lite can connect with only one unit of imaging test equipment.

1.3 Installing Digital Camera USB Driver

Install the USB driver supplied with the digital camera to the PC.
・If the digital camera is not recognized, Windows Update is needed.
・When using Windows 7, install only the EOS Utility that came with the EOS.
・If the camera information cannot be acquired after installing the EOS Utility, the EOS Utility
needs to be updated to the latest version.
・To change the camera with which the camera information is to be acquired, the driver of the
previous camera needs to be removed beforehand.
To remove the driver, select the driver in the Device Manager screen, then click "Uninstall" from
the displayed menu.

{ For the EOS 5D

CAUTION • Never connect the digital camera with the PC before installing the USB driver.
Installation may be failed.

Refer to the digital camera operator’s manual for the installation procedures.
Install the Cannon Camera WIA Driver (USB driver) on the EOS DIGITAL Solution Disk according to
the Software Guide.

• Select “Custom Installation” as Setup Type when of installation. In addition, select only
“Canon Camera WIA Driver, EOS 5D (PC connection)” as Select Features.

{ For the EOS 5D Mark II


Communication between the digital camera and PC is controlled by an OS function. Installing the USB
driver is not necessary.

{ For the EOS Kiss Digital X / EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi / EOS 400D
Communication between the digital camera and PC is controlled by an OS function. Installing the USB
driver is not necessary.

{ For the EOS Kiss X2 / EOS REBEL XSi / EOS 450D


Communication between the digital camera and PC is controlled by an OS function. Installing the USB
driver is not necessary.

{ For the EOS Kiss X3 / EOS REBEL T1i / EOS 500D


Communication between the digital camera and PC is controlled by an OS function. Installing the USB
driver is not necessary.

{ For the EOS Kiss X4 / EOS REBEL T2i / EOS 550D


Communication between the digital camera and PC is controlled by an OS function. Installing the USB
driver is not necessary.

{ For the EOS Kiss X5 / EOS REBEL T3i / EOS 600D


Communication between the digital camera and PC is controlled by an OS function. Installing the USB
driver is not necessary.

1.4 Installing NAVIS-Lite

Install NAVIS-Lite in the standalone PC.


• If logged in as a standard user, log in as an administrator to install NAVIS-Lite.
• Depending on the OS, the "User Account Control" dialog box may appear when booting the
CD. If it appears, select the button that allows NAVIS-Lite to be installed.

1 Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. The setup program is started automati-
cally.
Open the installation CD in Windows Explorer and double-click the Setup.exe file located in
the NAVIS-Lite folder if the setup program does not start.

2 Select English as the language. Click the OK


button to start installation.

3 Click the Next button.

4 The License Agreement dialog box is dis-


played. Read the contents carefully and click
the Yes button.

5 Specify the destination to install NAVIS-Lite


and click the Next button. The installation
starts.
The default installation location is C:\NAVIS-
Lite.

Click the Browse button to specify a custom


location in Choose Folder dialog box.

6 Select the digital camera to be used and click


the Next button. The installation starts.

• Be sure to always select “Canon EOS 5D” or “Canon EOS 5D Mark II” for the AFC-230.

NAVIS-Lite is now being installed. Wait for a


while until the screen is changed.

7 The dialog box to the right is displayed. Click


the Finish button.

8 Remove the installation CD from the CD-ROM drive.

Installation is completed. In the case of initial installation, be sure to also see “1.7 Installing AFC-230/210
Driver” (Page 13).

• The installation CD is necessary for uninstalling or reinstalling NAVIS-Lite. Keep the CD in


a secure place.

1.5 Uninstalling NAVIS-Lite

Uninstall NAVIS-Lite with the installation CD.

• NAVIS-Lite can be uninstalled also by Add/Remove Programs of Windows.


• If logged in as a standard user, log in as an administrator to install NAVIS-Lite.
• Depending on the OS, the "User Account Control" dialog box may appear when booting the
CD. If it appears, select the button that allows NAVIS-Lite to be installed.

1 Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. The setup program is started automati-
cally.

2 The InstallShield Wizard dialog box is dis-


played. Select the Remove option and click the
Next button.

3 The confirmation message for removing exam-


ination data is displayed. Confirm that the data
has been backed up and click the Yes button.
When the examination data is not backed up,
click the No button to cancel data removing.
Backup the data according to the explanation
of the NAVIS-Lite Operator’s Manual.

4 In the Confirm Uninstall dialog box, click the


OK button.
Uninstallation starts.

played after uninstallation finishes. Click the
Finish button.

Uninstallation is completed.

1.6 Modify or Repair NAVIS-Lite

Modify or repair NAVIS-Lite with the installation CD.

• If logged in as a standard user, log in as an administrator to install NAVIS-Lite.


• Depending on the OS, the "User Account Control" dialog box may appear when booting the
CD. If it appears, select the button that allows NAVIS-Lite to be installed.
• When switching the digital camera between the EOS 5D/EOS 5D Mark II and EOS Kiss
Digital X/EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi/EOS 400D, EOS Kiss X2/EOS REBEL XSi/EOS 450D,
EOS Kiss X3/EOS REBEL T1i/EOS 500D, EOS Kiss X4/EOS REBEL T2i/EOS 550D, or
EOS Kiss X5/EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D also change the setting using the modify
function.

1 Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. The setup program is started automati-
cally.

2 The InstallShield Wizard dialog box is dis-


played. Select the Modify or Repair option and
click the Next button.

3 In the Confirm Uninstall dialog box, click the


OK button.

4 Select the digital camera to be used and click


the Next button. The reinstallation starts.

• Be sure to always select “Canon EOS 5D” or “Canon EOS 5D Mark II” for the AFC-230.

Maintenance is completed.

1.7 Installing AFC-230/210 Driver

Install the AFC-230/210 driver with the AFC-230/210, digital camera, and PC connected.
Connect the USB cable to a port on the PC which will be regularly used.

CAUTION • Be sure to use the same port to which the USB cable from the AFC-230/210 was
originally connected when NAVIS-Lite was installed.
If not, the AFC-230/210 is not recognized correctly and image data can not be
imported.

{ for Windows 7

1 Connect the AFC-230/210 and digital camera to the PC.


• For the connection of the AFC-230/210 and digital camera, refer to the AFC-230/210
Digital Camera Installation Manual.

2 Turn on power to the AFC-230/210.

3 Open Device Manager.


Ex— Open Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound. Then click “Device Manager” in
“Devices and Printers”.
In Device Manager, ”When the AFC-230/210 is recognized, the Found New Hardware wiz-
ard is started. Click "Locate and install driver software (recommended)."

• The digital camera may not appear under “Portable Devices” the Device Manager tree
view. In such a case, update Windows 7.

4 Turn off power to the AFC-230/210, and check that the Unkown device” indication disap-
pears.

5 Double-click the Win7_32bit or Win7_64bit folder in the USB driver in the afcCapture
install destination depending on the PC being used.

6 Double-click “dpinst.exe” in the opened folder to start the installation software.

7 When the window that indicates the message, “Do you want to allow the following pro-
gram from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?”, appears, click
Yes.
The Install Wizard screen is
displayed.

8 Click Next.
The installation starts.

9 When the Windows Security screen appears, click “Install this driver software anyway”.

10 The installation completion message appears. Click "Finish."

The driver installation is complete. Perform the procedure below to confirm that the driver has been properly
installed.

11 Select "Device Manager" again, turn on power to the AFC-230/210, then check that the
installed driger is shown.

{ for Windows Vista

1 Connect the AFC-230/210 and digital camera to the PC.

2 Turn the AFC-230/210 on.

• Refer to the AFC-230/210 operator's manual for the AFC-230/210 and digital camera
connection procedures.

3 The Found New Hardware dialog box is dis-


played when the AFC-230/210 is recognized.
Click "Locate and install driver software(rec-
ommended)".

4 Click "Browse my computer for driver software (advanced)".

5 Click the Browse button and select the WinVistaXp folder in the USB Driver folder in the
installation destination of the NAVIS-Lite. Click the OK button.

6 Click the Next button.

7 When the Windows Security dialog box is displayed, click "Install this driver software
anyway".

8 This dialog box as shown to the right is displayed after installation finishes. Click the
Close button.

The driver has been installed. Next, check the AFC-230/210 driver.

9 Right-click "Computer" and select Manage or Property.

10 Select Device Manager and check that the NIDEK AFC Series is properly set.

{ for Windows XP

1 Connect the AFC-230/210 and digital camera to the PC.

2 Turn the AFC-230/210 on.

• Refer to the AFC-230/210 operator’s manual for the AFC-230/210 and digital camera
connection procedures.

3 The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box


is displayed when the AFC-230/210 is recog-
nized. Select “No, not this time” and click the
Next button.

4 Select “Install from a list or specific location


(Advanced)” and click the Next button.

5 Check “Include this location in the search” and


click the Browse button.

6 Display the USB driver folder in the NAVIS-Lite installation destination and select the
folder below. Click the OK button.

8 When a warning dialog box is displayed, click "Continue Anyway".


Installation starts.

The driver has been installed. Next, check the AFC-230/210 driver.

10 Right-click “My Computer” and select Manage.


11 Select Device Manager and check that the AFC-230/210 driver is properly set.
