Municipality of East Hants
The Municipality of East Hants is currently accepting Expressions of Interest, from those who wish to be considered, to provide Returning Officer services for the October 2012 Municipal Election. There are 13 electoral districts in the Municipality of East Hants. Responsibilities of the Returning Officer:

exercise general direction and supervision over the administrative conduct of all elections; appoint such enumerators, revising officers, deputy returning officers, poll clerks and other election officers as may be necessary; appoint substitute election officers to act in the stead of election officers who cannot act by reason of death, sickness, conflict of interest, resignation or other cause; fix such polling places as may be required for the various polling districts; instruct the election officers in the effective execution of their duties; require election officers to conduct themselves with fairness and impartiality and in compliance with the Municipal Elections Act; and do all other acts required for holding elections in conformity with the provisions of the Municipal Elections Act; manage a full enumeration process; periodic reporting to Council.

Requirements: The Returning Officer shall possess good management skills, strong public relations skills; must be efficient and able to complete tasks within short periods of time allowed by the election calendar. This Expression of Interest process also in no way prevents the municipality from entering into contracts for Returning Officer services derived from outside this process. The municipality reserves the right to outsource work at its sole discretion.
