Characters Pecola Breedlove She is an eleven-year little black girl, who is passive, innocent, and mysterious girl.
Her attitude was influenced by the society and family for wanting to be beautiful girl with blue eyes. Making she always praying before she sleep to wish the blue eyes. Pecola was taken care by MacTeers family because orders of the county. In this family, she meets new friends; Claudia and Frieda. She is in under pressure because everyone treats her as an ugly girl; include her father, mother, and Geraldine. Her mother treats her coldly, believes that Pecola is ugly and ashamed of her. Pecola is also raped by her father, Cholly, and becomes pregnant. But the baby dies. Cholly Breedlove He is Pecolas father. He often likes drunk and fight with his wife. He is an awful man, who never shows her love. He rapes his daughter, Pecola, and she becomes pregnant with him. Cholly burnt his house down, and makes her family moves to MacTeers house. His black leads him that he doesnt deserve for better life. He usually uses his anger to hurt other members of his family. Pauline Breedlove She is Pecolas mother. She is a wife of Cholly Breedlove, who often beat with her. Pauline treats Pecola coldly and cruelly, because of Paecolas ugliness. But Pauline also believes that she is ugly. She is trying to act like as Hollywood people, with white skin, glamorous and beautiful. When his husband, Chooly, burnt their house, Pauline adapts to the white family and becomes the ideal servant. Sammy Breedlove He is a Pecolas older brother. He also believes that his black makes him ugly. He even tries to run out when his house get out of control. Claudia MacTeer She is a nine-year-old girl, who is one of members in MacTeers family. Claudia is mostly as a narrator in this story. Claudia has a good ideal represents beauty in America, white skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair, but she ever reacts violently with her ideal by destroying her doll. Frieda MacTeer She is a ten-year-old girl and sister of Claudia MacTeer. Frieda is more behave than Claudia. She is closer to her whites community. Mrs. MacTeer
She is mother of Claudia and Frieda. She often seems cold, but she loves her children. She hates the ideal of American and teaches her children to have self-respect towards this ideal. Mr. MacTeer He is father of Claudia and Frieda. The head of the MacTeers family. He is a protective father toward his children. Mr. Henry Washington He is boarder of MacTeers family. He is an old handsome man. He is a playful and kind man towards MacTeers children, but too playful because he touches Friedas breasts. China, Poland, Miss Marie China is a skinny and sarcastic woman, Poland is a quiet woman, and Miss Marie or Maginot Line is a fact and affectionate woman. They live above Breedloves apartment. They befriend with Pecola. Maureen Peal She is a light-dark-skinned girl with long brown hair. She is a new student in local school. Teachers and classmates admires her, because her wealth, charm and beauty. Frieda and Claudia also feel jealous to her. Bayboy They are young black boys, who torment Pecola by calling her name embarrassing her. They feel ashamed with their ugly black, so they treat Pecola as a representation of their ugliness. Geraldine She is a middle-class black woman, and only concern with the white things. She care with her house, including her father and her son. She also loves her cat. Louis Junior He is Geraldines son. He is neglected by his mother, and becomes cruel and sadistic and makes him takes it out to others, especially to Pecola. Mr. Yacobowski He is the owner of the meat and grocery store, where is Pecola buy candy there. He doesnt want to see at glance or touch Pecolas hand, but Pecola knows it.
