Texting and Driving Dangers

Nemme and White (2010) discuss the dangers of texting while driving in their article. They find that texting while driving increases the risk of accidents more than drinking and driving, as it impairs a driver's response time by 18% compared to only 4% for drinking. The study also showed that texting drivers took nearly 25 more feet to stop than sober drivers. Overall, the authors effectively argue that texting while driving should be avoided, as it poses a serious risk by distracting from the important tasks of having hands on the wheel, eyes on the road, and mind on driving.

Title: Texting while driving: Psychosocial influences on young people's texting intentions and

behavior

Intended audience: The audience that are intended to be addressed is the general public

comprising of teens and adults. According to Nemme and White (2010), the youth and young

adults cannot put their phones away even for a few seconds. The publication appeals to them

based on facts on the effects that has been caused by the action. An understanding is needed for

the perspective of the target audience so that it can make a convincing appeal. In addition the

authors believe that personal experience will help in understand the perspective. An emotional

appeal in my opinion would help to motivate my target audience to understand why they need to

stop texting while driving. This would motivate them to change their ways. The paper would be

an emotional appeal that will be based on facts. A conventional voice would be used for the

paper. The publication therefore supports the topic of discussion.

Writer background: the writers are Heide Nemme and Mary M. Catherine. Heide Nemme

committed herself to the production of a high quality innovative outcomes and hence has gained

trust from clients. Mary on the other hand worked across industries in commercial and non-

can be used to help in avoiding the cases of accidents as a result of texting. Nemme and White

(2010) argue that for effectiveness of the issue various parties should be included, the

Department of Transportation of the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety

Administration, Automotive producers, and adolescents or any individual who write texts while

driving.

Part 1: The one-sentence summary

Nemme and White (2010) being professionals in guidance and giving recommendations

on critical issues have discussed that texting while driving hands down is unsafe as it is a

diversion and prompts mishaps. There are numerous destructions that numerous drivers face

while driving. Multi-tasking, boisterous music, perusing headings, negative enthusiastic stretch,

and texting while driving are all basic case of destructions while driving. These cases take away

a driver's emphasis on driving. The authors continue to argue that texting while driving obliges

one to at times look at the phone and to keep stand out hand on the wheel which is an unsafe

blend. As indicated by the article, texting while driving takes away the three basic things

required for safe driving, including the hands, eyes, and focus. When one drives and text there is

a higher running to a risk.

Part 2: The one-paragraph summary

According to Nemme and White (2010) in the article, when one texts and drive they

debilitate their reaction time by eighteen percent, or the seconds it takes to miss a stop sign or the

time it could take to run a crossing point and broadside a family. One should try not to make use

of phones and drive at the same time. Whatever one needs to say something it is good that one

can hold up. The article continues to make an intense message of the threats of texting while

driving. Texting while driving weakens reaction time, the time it could take to keep a mishap

from happening. The article is a convincing and it concurs on the perils of texting while driving.

Part 3: The multiple-paragraph summary

Texting while driving is frequently contrasted with drinking and driving. This is because

driving while texting can be as perilous as driving under the influence of alcohol. Nemme and

White (2010) show that texting while driving impedes a driver's response significantly more than
SOURCE SUMMARY 5

driving under the influence of alcohol. One is four times more prone to get into a mischance on

the off chance that you are drinking and driving and eight times more inclined to get into a

mishap on the off chance that you are texting while driving. These cases are amazing and mind

blowing. Texting and driving is more risky than plastered driving. The study contrasted the

distance that one uses to a stop while driving 35 mph to an unhampered driver. The outcomes

were concluded to be that texting driver ventures a quarter century feet before halting while a

plastered driver voyages four more feet before ceasing.

Texting while driving is a greater destruction than when one is drunk driving as showed

by the study. These outcomes are disturbing as it shows that one is in an ideal situation driving

plastered than texting and driving. Texting while driving could be seen as a dependence.

Individuals know the risks that accompany texting while driving yet they proceed to text and

drive. The same is valid with cigarette smokers. They know tobacco smoke expands the shot of

creating lung cancer yet they keep on smoking. The reason is they are dependent simply like the

individuals who text and drive. It is difficult to oppose texting while driving as it is anything but

difficult to escape with. The youth are therefore always affected by the vice and the laws should

be to restrict the action.

The best solution for capping the problem is to prevent messaging in any case while

driving. This is the most secure and most reasonable technique of ensuring that the drivers as

well as the passengers are safe. This is less demanding said than done however as drivers will be

enticed to peruse through instant messages and reply to them while driving. Albeit numerous

states have passed laws to ensure that drivers do not text while driving and have expanded

authorization to these laws it is still sensibly simple to escape with texting and driving due to the

factors caused by the drivers. In regards to this, it is hard for cops to tell whether a driver is

messaging while driving since drivers can hide their phones from the law enforcement while

texting.

Part 4: Your reaction

I agree with the authors advocating for the safety in the roads while pone is driving by

avoiding texting while driving. The main points are also argued in a well structure format. I

therefore agree with the way that the authors argue the main points. Since the intended audience

are the youth the information is meets the need since there is an understanding on the importance

of ensuring that one is safe in the road by avoiding texting while driving. In addition, I trust the

authors due to the background information about them. Having been councilors in different field

and having the experience in giving recommendations on the human affairs, I trust the

information that they are delivering.

From the information in the article I can be able to feel contentment and anger, this is

because although accident occur, there are ways that people can avoid them. The document is

structured with headings and data on the percentages of the effects of texting while driving have

been.
