Introduction
Science is a systematized body of knowledge that is based on facts
gathered through observations, experiences, and experiments in order to
formulate a verifiable conclusion or law that serves as a basis of
technology for the benefit of humankind.

It’s key to innovation, global competitiveness, and human

advancement. It’s important that the world continues to advance the field
of science, whether it’s finding new cures for cancer and other diseases
or identifying and exploring new galaxies.

Sharing knowledge about Science with pupils is one of the most

interesting aim of a teacher. It enables the teachers to awake the interest
of everyone about the happenings in the environment and in to the
humankinds. It also inculcates the love of nature that leads to
conservation and preservation of our Mother Earth.

Concrete experiences and activities were at stake towards the

development of their activities which enables them to discover new
things around them. To test their competences, children joined contest
and do activities and experiments to enhance knowledge and skills

Solid Waste Management

There are many ways on how to conserve and preserve our natural

resources. Every government agency won’t stop discovering some ways on how to

stop and control some calamities due to man’s bad activities. By providing them

the knowledge about solid waste management, they will be able to lessen the

cause of Earth’s destruction. From the smallest things we do, it is very sure that

even one point of risk is being reduced.

Recycling is one of the best ways for you to have a positive impact on

the world in which we live. It is one of the most important activity in reducing the

waste in our environment.

To link Solid Waste Management to innovative works of art, an

activity was conducted on the 24th day of October, 2021. In line with this, grade 5

pupils in Bagong Silang Elementary School joined this activity and serve it as their

output in Science. Here, learners made use of recycled materials to come up with

different art works.  With this activity, pupils were able to understand the meaning

of segregation to enhance the preservation and conservation of the environment.

They learned what biodegradable and non-biodegradable mean. And they were

able to dispose garbage properly.

Subject Integration
Covid-19 really affects the educational system of our country. Face-to-face

interaction among teachers and learners were not allowed because of the threat of

virus on our health. Therefore, different institutions have to find ways to provide

learning amid this pandemic.

The learning continuity plan of the Department of Education (DepEd)

included the implementation of the different modalities of learning delivery. The

different learning delivery modalities that may be adopted by schools are face to

face learning, distance learning (modular, online or tv/radio-based), blended

learning, and homeschooling. In connection with this, Bagong Silang, Elementary

School adopted modular distance learning because most of the parents do not have

stable internet connection and devices that their child may use in online classes.

With this modality, pupils are at home learning at their own pace as they answer

modules and other activities given by their teacher. Because of these, some

struggles were encountered by the pupils because of the difficulty in coping with

the demands of completing all their modules in one week. Therefore, the Division

of Balanga City come up with a strategy to ease the struggles encountered by the

learners by means

of Subject Integration. Our school adopted this strategy by combining Science

subject to its core subjects which are English and Mathematics.

An integrated curriculum is described as one that connects different areas of

study by cutting across subject-matter lines and emphasizing unifying concepts.

Integration focuses on making connections for pupils, allowing them to engage in

relevant, meaningful activities that can be connected to real life. One final key

benefit of an integrated curriculum is the ability of the learners to see skills

multiple times. Instead of teaching comprehension strategies in just reading,

teaching those strategies across multiple disciplines can give them an opportunity

to see and implement it more often. Moreover, this integration will also help the

pupils to lessen the tasks of the pupils in answering their modules and Activity

Sheets.

Intensive Disinfection
COVID-19 is a viral respiratory illness caused by a newly identified

coronavirus that was discovered in late 2019 in China. Coronaviruses are a large

family of viruses. Some coronaviruses cause illnesses in people and others only

circulate among animals. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can evolve and infect

people. The virus causing COVID-19 may have emerged from an animal source,

and it is now able to spread from person to person.

The virus is thought to spread between people who are in close contact

(within about six feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected

person coughs, sneezes, or talks. It may also spread when one person touches a

surface or object that has the virus on it and then touches their mouth, nose, or

eyes. However, this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

Current evidence suggests that novel coronavirus may remain viable

for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials. Cleaning of visibly

dirty surfaces followed by disinfection is a best practice measure for prevention of

COVID-19 and other viral respiratory illnesses in households and community

settings. In line with this, intensive disinfection was conducted in respond to the

threat of COVID-19 every Friday to help stop the further spread of the said virus.
