HOW TO ADMINISTER THE VACCINE VIA DRINKING WATER
      1. First thirst the birds for at least one-two hours depending on the ambient temperature.
      2. Prepare 15lts of water in a clean plastic bucket and the water must not exceed +15 degrees
celsius. The water must be free from any disinfectant or chlorine.
      3. You can add skimmed milk at 2-4g per litre of water to stabilise the vaccine virus.
      4. Remove the securing cap first then the rubber stopper under water and stir well.
      5. The vaccine should be used immediately after mixing ensuring that all the fowls get a
         sufficient dose within 2hours.
      6. 1000ds of the vaccine should be reconstituted in 15litres of water. Destroy all empty vials
after use and wash hands thoroughly.
DEWORMING
This should be done after every 10 weeks using piperazine, piperine or levamisole via drinking water.
NB: *Newcastle vaccine should also be repeated via drinking water after every 8 weeks from
         point of laying.
*Vitamins should also be given to stimulate production as well as reducing stress each time
         changes occur.

BIOSECURITY
It is a practice that is done to prevent the spread of diseases on a farm. This should be done a
week or two before placing the chicks but it also depends on how the farmer operates and the type of
chemicals being used.
STEPS TO FOLLOW WHEN CLEANING THE FOWL RUN
     1. DRY CLEANING
Remove ALL litter/manure followed by the use of a broom, brush, shovel, rag or compressed
air to remove dust, soil and dry organic material which is known as dry cleaning.
    2. WET WASH
Use plain water under pressure or perhaps a bucket of water and a broom if a pressure washer or hose-
pipe is not accessible to remove all remaining dirt in the house.
     3. WASHING
Dilute the correct detergent (eg. BIOGEN SUPER) meant for poultry houses in water. Use hard brooms
and brushes to scrub the walls, roofs and floors thoroughly. Rinse well with pressure water or hosepipes
to flush out the dirty. Wait until the house is dry.
    4. DISINFECTION
Dilute the correct disinfectant that kills poultry pathogens in water (eg BIOTEK ULTRA, BIOPHARM,
PARAGON, VIRUKILL). Use a suitable sprayer at low pressure to spray the walls, roofs and floors. Allow
the house to dry and stand closed for as long as possible. No single disinfectant is best for all purposes
and they should be rotated regularly to prevent resistance. Prepare the foot and vehicle dips.
    5. RESTING PERIOD
Allow for a resting period of at least 14 days from disinfection with the house well sealed to avoid any
contamination.
     6. PEST CONTROL
Practice rodent control such as rats and mice, wild birds, dogs and cats as they carry diseases
like salmonella into the poultry houses.
ALWAYS RESTRICT THE MOVEMENT OF VISITORS,PETS AND VEHICLES TO THE
POULTRY HOUSES AS THEY ARE THE MAIN CAUSE OF DISEASE SPREAD.
