Leading Your Family to God

Introduction:
As Christians, we have a responsibility to lead our families to God. It is not just enough to
believe in God ourselves, but we must also share our faith with our loved ones and help
them grow in their relationship with Him. Joshua 24:15 is a powerful verse that emphasizes
this responsibility. Let's explore this verse and other scriptures that will help us understand
how to lead our families to God.

Key Verse:
"But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." - Joshua 24:15 (NIV)

Discussion:
1. The Call to Lead: Joshua 24:15 is a clear call to leadership. Joshua, a respected leader
among the Israelites, is declaring his personal decision to serve the Lord, but he is also
declaring that his entire household will follow his lead. As Christians, we are called to be
leaders in our homes, leading our families to follow Christ. How can we become better
leaders for our families?

2. The Power of Example: One of the most powerful ways to lead our families to God is
through our example. Our actions speak louder than our words. If we want our families to
follow Christ, we must first make sure that we are living a life that reflects our faith.
Colossians 3:17 says, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name
of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." How can we live our lives
as examples of our faith to our families?

3. The Importance of Teaching: In addition to setting a good example, we also need to

actively teach our families about God. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says, "These commandments that
I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them
when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you
get up." We need to make sure that our families are not just seeing our faith, but also
hearing about it from us. How can we make sure that we are teaching our families about
God in a way that is engaging and effective?

4. The Role of Prayer: Finally, we cannot underestimate the power of prayer when it comes
to leading our families to God. We need to be praying for our families regularly, asking God
to help them grow in their faith and to guide us as we lead them. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
says, "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will
for you in Christ Jesus." How can we make sure that we are praying for our families
regularly?

Application:
As we think about our responsibility to lead our families to God, let's take some time to
reflect on these questions:
- In what ways can I be a better leader for my family?
- How can I be a better example of my faith to my family?
- How can I make sure that I am effectively teaching my family about God?
- How can I make sure that I am praying for my family regularly?

Conclusion:
Leading our families to God is an important responsibility for every Christian. Let's follow the
example of Joshua and declare, "But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
By setting a good example, teaching our families about God, and praying for them regularly,
we can help our loved ones grow in their faith and draw closer to God.
