DEITY WORSHIP PROCEDURES
WAKING UP THE DEITY:
1. Arrange the paraphernalia: Acaman patra, Bell, vessel, etc.
2. Purify the water either by mantra or adding Ganga Jal, Kali Gandaki jal, etc.
3. Perform acamana.
4. Enter into the altar chanting: Sri Sri Krishna Balaram ki jay, similarly to other deities.
5. Put a dim light on (not over the eyes), lights of temple hall can be helpful.
6. Wake up Srila Prabhupada.
Uttistha tistha om param gurave namah, by touching the lotus feet and ringing the bell.
Similarly wake up guru prarampara and on ascending order wake up the Deities by
touching Their lotus feet and ringing bell.
Uttistha tistha om [krishnaya] namah.
7. Put them on the asanas.
8. Offer obeisances.
9. Put on clothes, decorate Them with ornaments, change water,etc.
10. Mangal bhoga offering.
11. Clean the altar.
12. Perform aarati.
ABHISHEK:
1. Arrange paraphernalia: bathing vedi, conch, water (Holy water best) tulasi leaves, anga
vastras, etc.
2. Perform acamana.
3. Maintain the altar clean and pure.
4. First clean the frame of Srila Prabhupada and guru Parampara. Offer them some flowers.
Beg their blessings for serving the Deities.
5. Clean other frames.
6. Prepare the bathing vedi, decorate with goloka sketch by chanting the abhidheyadhideva
pranama mantra.
Put on tulasi leaves.
7. Remove the decorations.
8. Massage the Deities with ghee (optional) and put Them in the bathing place.
9. Perform abhishek chanting the Brahma Samhita prayers.
10. Remove the water by using anga vastras.
Idam anga vastram om [krishnaya] namah.
11. Perform acamana for the Deities.
Idam acamanium om [ krishnaya] namah.
Put on tilaka.
12. Decorate the lordship with vastras, jewels, garlands and flowers.
13. Bhoga offering.
Clean the altar.
14. Put on pakaris and remaining.
15. Offer mirror to the Lorship.
16. Offer obeisances and beg forgiveness for the offences in the worship.
17. Perform arati.
DEITY REST:
1. Arrange the paraphernalia: basket to put garlands and flowers, plate to take water, etc.
2. Perform acamana and offer obeisances to the deities.
3. Remove the decorations,change the water and clean the altar.
4. Prepare the bedding.
5. Invite the Deities to take rest in descending order.
6. Put the flute on the pillow.
7. Put on dim light and massage the lotus feet.
8. Put water, nets, etc.
9. Off the lights.
10. Offer obeisance and beg forgiveness for the offences.
11. Manage the window, fan, etc.
WAKING UP MANTRAS
Lord Gauranga:
uttisthottista gauranga jahi nidram mahaprabhu
subha-dristi- pradanena trailokya-mangalam kuru.
“O Lord Gauranga, please rise from sleep and bless the three worlds with Your
auspicious glance.”
Lord Krishna:
isvara sri-hare krsna devaki-nandana prabhu
nidram munca jagan-natha prabhata-samayo bhavet.
“O supreme controller, O Lord Hari, O Krsna, O son of Devaki, O master, O lord
of the universe, please give up Your sleep, for daybreak has come.”
Visnu tattvas:
uttisthottistha govinda uttistha paramesvara
uttistha kamala-kanta trailokyam mangalam kuru.
“O Govinda, O Paramesvara, O beloved of Laksmi, please rise and bestow good
fortune on all the three worlds.”
Simple matra:
“uttisthottistha om krsnaya/ gauraya/ balaramaya/nityanandaya namah”.
Sleeping mantras:
Lord Krishna and Balarama:
“sayyam agacchatam krsna yasodanandana-vardhana
sayyam agachhatam rama patitam mam dayam kuru.”
“O krsna, O source of mother Yasoda’s happiness, now please come to Your bed,
O Lord Balarama, please come to Your bed and bestow Your mercy upon me, who
am lowly and fallen.”
Lord Sri Gaurasundara
“ägaccha viçrama-sthänam sva-ganaih saha gauränga
ksnam visramya sukhena lilayä vihara prabho”
“O Lord Gauränga, please come to Your resting place along with Your associates.
O Lord, rest comfortably for a moment, enjoying Your pastimes.”
Srila Parbhupada
ägaccha çayana-sthänaà sva-gaëaiù saha çré-guro(parama-guru)
“O spiritual master, please come to your resting place, along with all your
associates.”
For other Deities chant:
ägaccha çayana-sthänaà sva-gaëaiù saha and the name of the Deity.
• Put out the lamps, quietly leave the room, lock the door, and offer praëämas to
your spiritual master and all Their Lordships. At night the püjäré or an assistant
should carefully put the Deities' jewelry, decorations, and clothes in their proper
storage places, respecting them as the Lord's paraphernalia.
