President Ikeda's Daily Encouragement September 26, 2011 Our voice costs nothing and it is our strongest weapon.
Nichiren Daishonin wrote, "Do not spare your voice" (Gosho Zenshu, p. 726).There are different voices for different situations: the clear, resounding voice that declares truth and justice; the strong voice that refutes evil; the bright, confident voice that tells others about the greatness of this Buddhism; the warm voice that gives encouragement; the sincere, friendly voice that offers praise and words of appreciation to others. The important thing is that we meet and speak with people widely, inside and outside the organization. No matter how hopeless and bleak things appear, the moment always comes when suddenly the spirit is revived, and hope reborn. That is why one must never give up, and certainly never attempt anything as drastic as suicide. GOSHO PASSAGE Although at heart you are of the same mind as Nichiren, since your person is in service to your lord, it would have been extremely difficult for you to have avoided the offense of complicity in slander. How admirable it is that, despite this, you communicated this teaching to your lord and urged him to take faith in it. Even though he may fail to accept it now, you have managed to avoid the offense of complicity. (WND 461) On Recommending This Teaching to Your Lord and Avoiding the Offense of Complicity in Slander Written to Shijo Kingo on September 26, 1274 BUDDHISM DAY BY DAY - WISDOM FOR MODERN LIFE Live in a way that is full of lifefor yourself, for your loved ones, for your friends. People who do so will find the courage to transform sufferings into hopes. Not only that, but they will be able to light the lamp of hope in the hearts of many others, as well. A YOUTHFUL DIARY - Thursday, January 7 (1960) Fair Left home at 8:00 a.m. Annoyed by the crowded train. Spent all my pocket money during the New Year's vacation. No money left for a cab. From today on, cannot waste money any more. Must exert myself at work more earnestly from today on. In the afternoon, along with the general director, met with lawyers about the court case hearing regarding N. and others at the headquarters. Nothing tormented my mentor and injured the Gakkai more than this incident. Must clearly prove the Gakkai's purity, justice and tradition in court. But how can genuine Gakkai members forgive N.'s and others' base desire to be promoted and gain distinction, not to mention their unseemly conduct?
Spoke with several senior directors about the essence of the Gakkai and our departed mentor's heart. Want them to understand his heart so they will not become egoistic - for the sake of my dear Gakkai members. In the evening, top youth division leaders came by my home. We dined together. Talked about my vision seven years and fourteen years from now. Did they understand or not? Did they believe or not? 1. Court case regarding N: Refers to a case in which some Soka Gakkai members unilaterally broke election laws in an Osaka House of Councilors election. This was contrary to the ethics advocated by the Soka Gakkai and President Toda throughout the election campaign.
