WHAT IS PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST?


WHAT COMES INTO YOUR MIND WHEN YOU HEARD PHYSICAL FITNESS?
You probably have some idea of how fit you are. But knowing the specifics can help you set realistic fitness
goals, monitor your progress and maintain your motivation. Once you know your starting point, you can plan
where you want to go. Get started with a simple PHYSICAL FITNESS assessment.
According to Scully; 1994. Physical fitness is the ability of an individual to carry out daily tasks efficiently with
enough physical capacity to cope with the physical needs of life. –
Similarly, a person is said to be physically fit if he/she possesses the strength and stamina to carry out tasks
without due fatigue and have enough energy to do leisure.
Thus, this is the ability of the body to perform a task vigorously, with alertness and without feeling tired.

= refers to the capacity or capability of an individual person body systems to work together efficiently to allow
you to be healthy and perform activities of daily living. Being efficient means doing daily activities with the
least effort possible. -   Physical fitness is important since it enables us to be become productive individuals.

What is Physical Fitness Test PROGRAM?


A special component of PE that measures a fitness level. This is an identification of strength and
weaknesses in terms of fitness. This also serves as guide and motivation to what sports an individual should
participate in.
- It is very important to first know, identify and measure the level of fitness of an individual before
engaging into the different sports or activities. It will also help you understand the person’s differences,
capacity and potential that will help them thrive and develop.

B. Performance/Skill-related Fitness Components
Health-related Fitness Components - involves exercise activities that you do in order to try to improve your
physical health and stay healthy, particularly in the categories of the following;
 Muscular Strength- ability of the muscle to exert force against resistance
 Muscular Endurance - ability of the muscle to use repeated muscular contraction against resistance for
a long period of time.
 Cardiorespiratory Fitness - heart and lungs ability to deliver nutrients and oxygen.
 Flexibility - ability of the joints to move throughout the full range of movement.
 Body Composition - the percentage of fat, muscle, and bone in the body.
Skill-related Fitness Components - is defined as working out with a goal of improving a specific skill. ... These
are usually used to help athletes improve performance for their particular sport or activity. Skill related fitness
includes the following;
 Agility - ability to change positions, movements, or direction with quickness and lightness.
 Balance - ability to control and maintain positions or movement of the body. (STATIC: fixed position or
DYNAMIC: body in motion).
 Power - ability of the muscle to release maximum force in the shortest possible time.
 Coordination -ability to keep harmonious functioning of muscles in producing complex movements.
 Speed - ability to make continuous movements of the same kind in the shortest possible time.
 Reaction Time - ability of the body to react to the interval of time between the signal to respond
(stimulus).

Pre-Test Warm Up
Before proceeding to the actual physical fitness test, a series of warm-up exercises for the UPPER and
LOWER EXTREMITIES should be done first to prepare the body.
