6.1 Proper management of wastes begins with pollution prevention. Pollution

prevention refers to the elimination, change or reduction of operating practices
which result in discharges to land, air or water. If elimination of a waste is not

possible, then minimizing the amount of waste generated should be investigated.

Responsible waste management may be accomplished through hierarchical
application of the practices of source reduction, reuse, recycling. Elements of
these practices are shown below:
6.2 Source Reduction—the generation of less waste through more efficient

practices such as:

6.2.1 Material elimination
6.2.2 Inventory control and management
6.2.3 Material substitution
6.2.4 Process modification
6.2.5 Improved housekeeping
6.3 The objective of waste management is to assist ZPEBU rigs to achieve and

keep compliance with environmental protection policy and choose feasible source
reduction and recycling options to minimize wastes from drilling activities.
