Introduction
WHAT’S A CAT?
The cat is a domestic animal Its scientific name is Felis catus. It is a
small animal that belongs to the “Felidae” family. There are more
than 30 animals belonging to this family. Other members are tigers,
panthers, puma, cheetah, leopard, etc. Cat is the only
domesticated species of the family and are also the smallest. Cat
is a beautiful small animal resembling the likes of a tiger. It lives on
the streets or in a house. Cat is one of our favorite pet animals.
The cat’s body is covered with soft, silky hair and has four short
legs and sharp claws in the fleshy pads.
WHAT’S A CAT?
Cat has four short legs and sharp claws in the fleshy pads. They
also have very shiny eyes, two cute ears, one soft baby pink
colour nose, and a sharp nail in their paws. These paws make
them very good hunter. They can easily catch a rat and have
their dinner. Cats have bright eyes and they can even see in the
dark. They have a flexible body helps them to jump here and
there easily. They love grooming themselves and in research, it
has been found that they spent 30 % of their life, live-in
grooming themselves.
Cat are cute as well as intelligent. They have a very good
memory and remember things for a long time.
IMPORTANCE OF CATS
IN THE ENVIRONMENT
The existence of cats is very important for the
environment, this is because their presence can be
used as a counterweight to the ecosystem. The
presence of a cat can used to suppress the high
population of wild rats and mice because cats really
like to hunt mice.
Besides rats, cats can also suppress soaring
annoying population of small insects. In India,
cats are believed to have played an important
role in reducing grain production losses caused
by rodents.
CAT’S GROWTH
How Does a
Cat Grow?
Cats are intriguing creatures that have
grabbed many pet owners' hearts. Cats,
like any other animal, go through a
growing process that includes both
physical and behavioral changes.
A cat's physical development may be
split into three stages:
KITTEN
A kitten is a little and delicate cat with a round
head, huge eyes, and short legs. As the kitten
develops, its body proportions improve and its
hair thickens and lengthens.
ADOLESCENCE
By adolescence, a cat's physique has gotten leaner
and more muscular, and its face has become more
angular. A cat's sexual maturity occurs during the
teenage stage, and it may begin to demonstrate
territorial behavior.
ADULT
The adult cat reaches its full
size and weight, which ranges
between one and twenty
pounds depending on the
breed
Cats in their adolescence may begin to demonstrate territorial
behavior, such as spraying or clawing furniture. This is also the time
when they achieve sexual maturity, and it is critical that they get
spayed or neutered to avoid undesired litters. Cats acquire their
personalities and behaviors as they mature. Some cats are more
gregarious and outgoing than others, and some are more independent
and reclusive.
UNDERSTANDING
CATS’ LIVES
Cats, the fascinating creatures who beautify our
homes, have captivated our attention throughout
history. Their seemingly aloofness and
independence can leave many people wondering
about the inner workings of their life.
Comunication Mode
Cats have a distinct and nuanced communication style
that is sometimes overlooked by their human friends.
Cats communicate using a combination of vocalizations,
body language, and scent marking, rather than words like
people do. Cats employ a variety of vocalizations to
convey their wants and moods, including purring,
meowing, hissing, and growling. Furthermore, their body
language might reveal important information about their
present state of mind
Routine on A Daily Basis
Cats are well-known for their penchant for a nocturnal lifestyle,
sleeping for the most of the day and leaving their peak activity for the
evening hours.
Domesticated cats thrive in a regulated setting that includes regular
feedings, access to water, playfulness, and humans connection. Cats
have a distinct communication style that includes a variety of
vocalizations, body language, and scent-marking. Cats also use their
tails, ears, and eyes to indicate distinct emotions and intents.
Scratching and rubbing against surfaces improves the scent-marking of
things, promoting communication within their social environment.
Instincts for Hunting
Cats are predators by nature, and even tamed
felines maintain this tendency. They are superb
hunters due to their sharp senses, including as
acute hearing and night vision. Cats are incredibly
agile and precise, whether running after a toy
mouse or pouncing on a moving target.
Relationship with People
Cats, although being seen as aloof, may create
profound ties with their human friends. Cats, due to
their independence, enjoy their solitude and
frequently demand a mix of social engagement and
personal space. Their intriguing attraction
originates from their capacity to forge emotional
bonds on their own terms.
Physical Modifications
They are well-equipped to track and grab prey,
with sharp retractable claws, acute eyesight, and
great hearing. Their agile and graceful pounces
are made possible by their flexible bodies and
strong muscles, making them dangerous
predators. Cats also have a particular digestive
system that allows them to consume a
carnivorous diet effectively
Cognitive Skills
Cats, contrary to common opinion, have a high level
of intellect. Their cognitive talents may be shown in
their problem-solving abilities, memory, and ability
to navigate their environment precisely. Cats also
exhibit curiosity, curiosity, and a natural need to
investigate, frequently exhibiting ingenuity in
difficult conditions.
Perception of the Senses
Cats' sensory sense distinguishes them and
enhances their comprehension of the environment.
They excel at detecting small movements,
communicating with conspecifics, and hunting prey
due to their highly developed senses of sight,
hearing, and smell. They can also explore and live
in a range of habitats thanks to their night vision,
keen hearing, and sensitive whiskers.
Social Organization
Although cats are commonly thought to be solitary
creatures, they have a complex social structure.
Cats display territorial behavior, hierarchy, and
social relationships within their groups, which can
involve both humans and other animals. Their
interactions stress collaboration, territorial marking,
and reciprocal grooming, which helps to strengthen
social relationships within their feline network.
Hunting and Recreational
Behavior
Even after domestication, cats maintain their
inherent hunting instincts. They are exceptionally
proficient predators due to their exceptional agility,
stealth, and attention. Playing simulates hunting
activity, allowing cats to expend energy, refine their
abilities, and maintain their physical and mental
health.
Adapting to
Environmental Change
Cats have a remarkable capacity to changing
situations, allowing them to live and flourish in a
variety of habitats. Their intrinsic resilience allows
children to build new ties and establish themselves
within new social systems, whether they are
transiting from families to shelters or adjusting to
new households.
CONCLUSION
Finally, the growth and development of cats is a
magnificent journey that includes both physical and
cognitive achievements. From infancy to adulthood, cats
are always learning, problem-solving, and adapting.
Their intellect and comprehension, albeit separate from
those of humans, provide intriguing insights into the
fascinating world of feline development
THE IMPACT OF CATS ON OTHER
LIVING THINGS OR THE
ENVIRONMENT
Bad side
Cats are natural predators, and they stalk and kill small
animals for fun and food. The problem is cats don’t care if the
bird or rodent they’re hunting is on the endangered species
list or not. And they’re very good at what they do.
Unfortunately, according to the American Bird Conservancy,
cats are partially responsible for declining American bird
populations, killing more than 2 billion birds per year. Outdoor
pet cats have also impacted the extinction of more than 60
animal species, including mammals and reptiles as well as
birds
Positive side
Cats are elite rodent catchers and help control populations of
invasive species and small animals that multiply quickly. A
study on mammal extinctions on more than 300 Australian
islands found that small mammals were less likely to go
extinct on islands inhabited by feral cats and black rats
(versus islands inhabited by rats but not cats).
The carbon footprint of cats is considerably smaller than
dogs', making them ideal pets for the environmentally
conscious animal lover. A 2017 study estimated that 1,000
cats produce around 962.5 tons of carbon dioxide each year
versus the same number of dogs, who produce an estimated
2,060 tons.
