LP Addition of Polynomials

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for a mathematics class on adding and subtracting polynomials. It includes objectives, subject matter, materials, and procedures. The lesson plan calls for preliminary activities like prayer, checking attendance and assignments. Students will play a bingo game as motivation related to the topic. Then students will be grouped to discuss the lesson on adding and subtracting polynomials. Finally, an evaluation activity called "Beat my Bestie" will serve as a quiz where students compete in teams to answer questions faster than their partners.

III. Procedure

Teachers Activity Student's Activity

a. Preliminary Activity
1. Prayer
Before we start may I request everyone to please stand and
we will pray.

Nikko kindly lead the prayer.

(Student and teacher pray.)
2. Greetings
Good Morning/ Afternoon Class!
( student in chorus Good / Afternoon
Ma’am/ Sir)
3. Classroom Conditioning
You may now take your seat. And please keep all your things
inside your bag.
(student follows the instruction of the
teacher)
4.Checking of Attendance
Class secretary is there any absent among your
classmates?
( class secretary None Ma’am/Sir)
Very good! I’m glad to hear that it means that no one will
miss our topic for today
5. Checking of Assignment
Did I give an assignment yesterday?
( student No Ma’am!)
Are you sure?
Yes ma’am
Motivation

Today we are going to discuss a topic that is also related on

our past lesson but before that we will have a short a game.

We will play bingo.

So are you are you ready class?

( yes ma’am/ sir)
Okay here’s the mechanics I want you to listen carefully.
I will be giving each one of you a bingo card, that card is
different from the bingo card you know, in this game as you
can see your cards are empty.
You are going to write all the numbers you want.
I want you to choose numbers from 1 to 40.
Write it on the space. After that we will start the game.
Do you understand?
Okay I will give you 2 minutes to prepare your card.

Time is up!

Let’s start.

Are you ready class?

(yes ma’am /sir)
For the first draw, let’s have lucky 7. The first one who got 7
point is the winner.

(After two/three draws the game will end.)

I think that’s enough, we can end the game now.

Alright! Did you enjoy our game?

(Yes Ma’am/Sir)
Are you sure?

Have you noticed something about our game? (yes Ma’am/Sir)

Yes Jonalyn?
Ma’am/Sir I noticed that the questions are
about adding and subtracting of signed
number.

Very good our game is about rules in sign numbers. And it is

related in our new lesson.
Let’s give Jonalyn a good job clap
Lesson proper

Today we are going to discuss Addition and Subtraction of

Polynomials and while we are discussing you will noticed
that our motivation is related on our new topic.

To start our discussion I will group you into three,

Please pick one paper in the jar, that will designate which
group you will belong.
(the student will pick a paper)
Group A
Group B
Group C

Here’s the procedure;

Group A will discuss the lesson.
Group B will critic Group A
And group C will critic A and B

Do you understand?
(Yes Ma’am)
Okay here’s the topics

I will give you 5 minutes to discuss it with your group mates

you may now start

Topic

Addition and Subtraction

Since the variables appearing in a polynomial stand for real
numbers, we can apply to polynomials the definition and
properties involving the real numbers.
The procedure for combining by addition the similar terms in
a polynomial and for adding polynomials is shown in the
following illustrations.

Step in adding polynomials.

1st step place like terms together

2nd step the like terms

Illustration 1.

5x2+3x2-4x2=(5+3-4)x2=4x2
Illustration 2.

2x2y+3x2y-x2y+5xy2-3xy2=(2x2y+3x2y-x2y)+(5xy2-3xy2)
=(2+3-1)x2y+(5-3)xy2
=4x2y+2xy2

To subtract polynomial

Subtraction of one polynomial from another can also

performed using the distributive law or by placing them in
separate rows with similar terms in same column.
We also follow steps in subtraction of polynomials.

First reverse the sign of each term we are subtracting (in other
words turn “+” “-” and – into +)
Then add as usual.

(5y2+2xy-9) – (2y2+2xy-3)

5y2+2xy-9
- 2y2-2xy+3
3y2+0-6

= 3y2-6

Example 2.
(5a+3b-12c) – (3a+2b-9c)

5a+3b-12c
- 3a-2b+9c
2a+b-3c

Generalization

Do you understand our lesson class?

Yes Ma’am
Do you have any question or clarification?
None Ma’am
Are you sure?
Yes ma’am
Okay since you understand our lesson and you don’t have any
question, Miss Pacheco can you summaries our lesson for
today? The student will answer her own opinion

Very good! Let’s give her a pakbet clap

The student will clap

Evaluation

Now let’s have an activity this will serve as your quiz.

Prepare your pen and 1 whole sheet of paper.

This time our activity will be fun I assure you will enjoy it.
“Beat my Bestie”

Mechanics

1. Choose your partner preferably your best friend.

2. In this game your partner best friend will be your
opponent.
3. This is a time management game.

4. After you choose your partner. The game/activity will

start. (the facilitator will assign who will play first)
5. The facilitator will choose 10 players every round.
Each round have three questions, the player need to
have two corrects answer to win.
6. The one who get two correct answer sis the winner.
( the winner gets perfect score in the quiz the looser
will have to face sanction to get high score in the
activity)
7. Remember your “bestie/partner” is your opponent,
and this is a time management game you need to
answer faster than your “partner/bestie”.

After giving the procedure the activity will start. The

game is divided in 4 rounds.

Sanction for the looser ( they will dance “The Chicken

Dance”)

(after the activity)

So class did you enjoy our activity? Yes ma’am

Assignment

Okay for your assignment. Study our next topic

Multiplication and Division of Polynomials.
Okay ma’am/sir

Okay that’s all for today. See you tomorrow.

Goodbye class!
Good Bye and Thank you Ma’am/Sir
