(1) Apply 9S3263 Thread Lock on threads of bolts.

Torque for 20 bolts ... 1800 ± 200 N·m (1320 ± 150 lb ft)

(2) Apply 1U8846 Gasket Maker on the mating surfaces of the cover and ring gear.

(3) Apply 1U8846 Gasket Maker on the mating surfaces of ring gears.

(4) Make stake marks near opening of each pin hole after installation, as indicated by dimension
(D) ... 1.50 mm (.060 in)

(5) Apply 9S3263 Thread Lock on threads of bolts.

Torque for 22 bolts ... 1000 ± 125 N·m (740 ± 90 lb ft)

(8) Apply 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound to all bearing contact surfaces.

Bearing Preload Adjustment Procedure


1. Apply load (P) of 10 000 kg (22,000 lbs) on bearing (8).

2. Turn housing (12) several turns.

3. Reduce load (P) to 4500 ± 450 kg (9900 ± 990 lbs) and measure distance (E).

4. Measure distance (F) of gear (6).

5. Use an appropriate thickness of shim (7) to get a distance of [(E-F) ± 0.10 mm (.004 in)].

Shim thickness:

6I6373 ... 1.20 mm (.047 in)

6I6375 ... 1.40 mm ).055 in)

6I6378 ... 1.80 mm (.071 in)

6I6380 ... 2.00 mm (.079 in)

6I6381 ... 2.10 mm (.083 in)

6I6383 ... 2.30 mm (.091 in)

6I6385 ... 2.50 mm (.098 in)

6I6387 ... 2.70 mm (.106 in)

7Y0807 ... 1.60 mm (.063 in)

(9) O-rings of floating seal and all surfaces in contact with them must be clean and dry at assembly.
Apply a thin layer of oil on the surfaces that contact with the metal seals just before installation.

(10) Use plate, as required, to get endplay (C) of ... 1.00 to 2.60 mm (.039 to .102 in).

(11) Apply 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound to pin bores.

(13) Torque for two plugs ... 185 ± 15 N·m (135 ± 11 lb ft)
