FIRST Q REFLECTION JOURNAL

Name: SHIELA B. PLANAS Position: Teacher I

Personal Philosophy: Students learn best when they feel physically, emotionally and
mentally safe and accepted.

Insights or Realizations:

Preparing for the blended learning, where students will have their three-day face-to-face
classes, considering the transition from modular learning to face-to-face learning, is
seemingly a bit of challenging. It is not enough that the classroom environment is
physically safe. When students feel physically safe, they can focus on their learning
without worries about their well-being. This includes having a secure environment, free
from hazards or threats. Emotional safety is equally important as it allows students to
express their thoughts, feelings, and opinions without fear of judgment or ridicule. When
students feel emotionally safe, they're more likely to engage actively in discussions, ask
questions, and take risks in their learning. Mental safety is another crucial aspect for
effective learning. It refers to creating an environment where students' diverse learning
needs and abilities are recognized and accommodated. Providing meaningful and
challenging tasks that allow students to stretch their thinking and providing support when
needed can help maintain mental safety. In conclusion, when students feel physically,
emotionally, and mentally safe and accepted, they are more likely to be motivated,
engaged, and successful learners. It is essential for educators and schools to prioritize
these aspects to create optimal conditions for student learning and development.

SECOND Quarter REFLECTION JOURNAL

Name: SHIELA B. PLANAS Position: Teacher I

Personal Philosophy: Teachers offer the gift of learning.

Insights or Realizations:

Teachers play a crucial role in motivating students and supporting their learning journey.
Teachers can inspire students by creating a positive and engaging learning environment.
This includes using creative teaching methods, incorporating technology, and providing
real-world examples to make lessons relevant and interesting. Recognizing and
celebrating students' achievements can also boost their motivation. Teachers can help
students succeed by setting clear learning goals and providing regular feedback. They can
break down complex concepts into smaller, manageable steps and offer additional
support when necessary. Teachers can also model problem-solving strategies and provide
guidance to help students overcome challenges. Effective classroom management creates
a structured and organized environment where learning can thrive. Establishing routines,
setting expectations, and managing behavior in a consistent and fair manner helps create
a safe and productive learning space. By establishing a positive classroom culture,
teachers can foster cooperation and respect among students. By offering motivation,
support, good classroom management, solid educational theory, and consistent teaching
practices, teachers can empower students to become lifelong learners and achieve their
full potential. The gift of learning is one that can have a lasting impact on students' lives.

THIRD Quarter REFLECTION JOURNAL

Name: SHIELA B. PLANAS Position: Teacher I

Personal Philosophy: A teacher should create a student-centered learning environment.

Insights or Realizations:
As an educator, I firmly believe that mathematics learning should be an active and engaging
process that empowers students to construct their own understanding of mathematical concepts.
By creating a supportive and student-centered learning environment, I aim to foster a deep
conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, and a positive attitude towards mathematics. In
this journal entry, I would like to reflect on how I implemented this learner-centered approach
during today's mathematics lesson and the impact it had on my students. During the lesson, I
encouraged active participation and collaboration by incorporating cooperative learning activities.
I divided the students into small groups and assigned them tasks that required comparing and
ordering fractions. Each group had the opportunity to work together, discuss their strategies, and
justify their reasoning. This collaborative approach not only promoted student engagement but
also allowed them to learn from one another and gain different perspectives on solving problems.
Furthermore, the learner-centered approach fostered a growth mindset and resilience in
students. They embraced challenges and viewed mistakes as opportunities for learning and
growth. By valuing their own thinking processes and the diverse strategies of their peers, students
developed a sense of ownership over their learning and were motivated to improve their
mathematical reasoning skills.

FOURTH QUARTER REFLECTION JOURNAL

Name: SHIELA B. PLANAS Position: Teacher I

Personal Philosophy: A teacher should create a student-centered learning environment.

Insights or Realizations:
As a high school teacher, I have always believed in the power of a learner-centered teaching
philosophy to promote student engagement, critical thinking, and academic growth. I firmly
believe that education should go beyond the transmission of knowledge and focus on
empowering students to become active participants in their own learning process. By placing
students at the center of the classroom, I aim to create a learning environment that fosters
curiosity, independent thinking, and lifelong learning. In my experience, the implementation of a
learner-centered teaching philosophy has resulted in positive outcomes. Students become more
engaged, motivated, and enthusiastic about learning. They take ownership of their education,
develop critical thinking skills, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. The collaborative
and inclusive classroom environment cultivates respect, empathy, and appreciation for diversity
among students.
Overall, the application of a learner-centered teaching philosophy has had a profound impact on
my high school classroom. It has not only enhanced students' academic achievements but also
nurtured their personal and social growth. As an educator, I am committed to continually refining
my practices and seeking innovative strategies that prioritize student engagement,
empowerment, and authentic learning experiences. By embracing a learner-centered approach, I
aim to inspire my students to become lifelong learners who are curious, adaptable, and ready to
contribute to society.
