BEECHCRAFT King Air C90/C90A Aircraft:
• Equipped with Raisbeck/Hartzell 4-Blade Propellers
• Equipped with P&W PT6A-135A Engines from Blackhawk

1.0 INTRODUCTION and APPROVAL

Information in this document supersedes similar information in applicable Beechcraft, Goodrich,
Hartzell, and Pratt & Whitney Maintenance and Service Manuals where applicable.
For all other procedures of rigging, installation, and maintenance, consults applicable existing
documents.
This document is intended to provide detailed instructions for the installation of both the
Raisbeck/Hartzell Quiet Turbofan Propeller System and Swept Blade Turbofan Propeller System on
Beechcraft King Air C90/C90A aircraft, when equipped with PT6A-135A engines per Blackhawk STC
SA10341SC.
These instructions are presented in a recommended sequence. However, some of the activities
presented may be accomplished concurrently to suit the installer’s schedule.

The Raisbeck/Hartzell Quiet/Swept Blade Turbofan Propeller System has been approved by the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) SA3593NM.
The installation of this system must conform to the FAA-Approved Raisbeck Engineering installation
figures and the instructions contained in this document.
Conformity verification of the installed system to the Raisbeck Engineering installation figures and
the instructions is the responsibility of the installation facility.

AUTOFEATHER MUST BE INSTALLED AS A PREREQUISITE.

2.0 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Each engine is equipped with a Raisbeck/Hartzell Quiet/Swept Blade Turbofan, four-blade, full-
feathering, constant-speed, counterweighted, reversing, variable-pitch propeller mounted on the
output shaft of the reduction gear box. The propeller pitch and speed are controlled by engine oil
pressure, through single-action, engine-driven propeller governors. Centrifugal counterweights,
assisted by a feathering spring, move the blades toward the low RPM (high pitch) position and into
the feathered position. Governor boosted engine oil pressure moves the propeller to the high RPM
(low pitch) hydraulic stop and reverse position. The propellers have no low RPM (high pitch) stops;
this allows the blades to feather after engine shut down.
Salient Features of the entire Raisbeck/Hartzell Quiet/Swept Blade Turbofan Propeller System
include:
1. Minimum cruise RPM is 1,900 RPM.
2. Ground minimum propeller RPM is 1,100 RPM.
3. Lightweight aluminum hubs, with all propeller adjustments external to the hub.
4. Small diameter (93 inches) high-twist aluminum blades, incorporating new high-lift airfoils
from root to tip. Additionally, these blades maintain their airfoil contours well into the spinner,
eliminating blockage to the nacelle inlet. The ITT reductions for equal torque are the result.
5. New Hartzell De-ice System, complete with circuit breakers and timers.
6. New low-drag aluminum propeller spinners.
7. The optional Raisbeck/Hartzell Swept Blade Turbofan Propeller is characterized by, a swept
blade design, with a larger diameter (96 inches), and more performance than Quiet Turbofan
Propeller.

Revision K: Page 1
BEECHCRAFT King Air C90/C90A Aircraft:
• Equipped with Raisbeck/Hartzell 4-Blade Propellers
• Equipped with P&W PT6A-135A Engines from Blackhawk

The Raisbeck/Hartzell Quiet Turbofan, four-bladed Propellers (HC-D4N-3C/D9290K) have a full

feathered angle of 84.5 degrees ±0.5 degree at the 30-inch station, a mechanical reverse pitch stop
of -9.0 degrees ±0.5 degree, and a low pitch stop of 20.1 degrees ±0.1 degree.
The Raisbeck/Hartzell Swept Blade Turbofan, four-bladed Propellers (HC-D4N-3C/D9510SK) have
a full feathered angle of 86.7 degrees ±0.5 degree at the 30-inch station, a mechanical reverse pitch
stop of -10.0 degrees ±0.5 degree, and a low pitch stop of 18.6 degrees ±0.1 degree.
Low pitch propeller position is determined by a mechanically monitored hydraulic stop. The
propeller servo piston is connected by four spring-loaded sliding rods to the slip ring mounted behind
the propeller. Movement is transferred through the propeller reversing lever to the Beta valve of the
governor. When the propeller is rotating at a speed lower than that selected on its governor, the
governor pump provides oil pressure to the servo piston and decreases the pitch of the propeller
blades until the feedback of motion from the slip ring pulls the Beta valve into position blocking the
supply of oil to the propeller, thus preventing further pitch changes.
Throughout this and referenced Beechcraft documentation, the term “Constant Speed Governor”,
“Propeller Governor” and “Primary Governor” are used interchangeably to refer to the same
mounted propeller speed control unit.

2.1 Optional Gross Weight Increase

Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) and Maximum Landing Weight (MLW) of C90/C90A
aircraft increases to 10,500 lb and 9,700 lb respectively.
To facilitate this capacity, VMO has been reduced to 208 knots on some models to ensure no
degradation in their structural integrity or fatigue life. On newer C90A/C90B models, VMO of
226 KIAS is retained. Additionally, Raisbeck Dual Aft Body Strakes are required.
C90A airplanes installing Raisbeck/Hartzell Swept Blade Turbofan Propeller System
(D9510SK), and equipped with the following alterations, are eligible for the Raisbeck
14-C90GTRx FAA-Approved Flight Manual Supplement which provides factory new C90GTx
performance. (See Section 10.0, step 6)
• Raisbeck Dual Aft Body Strakes per STC SA4010NM
• Beechcraft Increased Maximum Operating Weight alteration per STC SA10747SC
• BLR Aerospace Winglet System per STC SA02054SE

8.0 POST-INSTALLATION RUN-UP CHECKS AND ADJUSTMENTS

CAUTION: OBSERVE STANDARD FIRE AND PROPELLER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS. MAKE SURE
RAMP IS CLEAR BEFORE STARTING ENGINES.

Refer to Beechcraft King Air Operator Manual and start engines. Accomplish the checks and
adjustments as follows:

NOTE: If this check is not being performed under zero wind conditions, take an average of the upwind
and downwind readings to obtain valid results.

CAUTION: WHEN ACCOMPLISHING THE NEXT STEP, MAKE SURE THAT THE AUTOFEATHER
SYSTEM IS OFF.

8.1 Takeoff RPM Check

Run engines to check maximum propeller RPM of 1,900 RPM. Adjust using maximum
RPM stop-screw.

8.2 Power Symmetry and Low Pitch Stop Check

1. With the propeller levers fully forward, advance the cockpit power lever until the
propeller reaches 1,800 RPM. The torquemeter reading for the engine should equal the
value specified by the Low Pitch Torque Check Chart A (+20/-0 lb-ft) on page 16.
2. Repeat the check on the other engine. The difference between the torquemeter
readings on the engines should not exceed 20 lb-ft. If the torquemeter readings do not
fall within the limitations described above, or the difference between the engines
exceeds 20 lb-ft, the following adjustments are required:
a. Adjust the stop (Beta) nut on each of the four (4) low pitch stop rods for the propeller.
All four (4) nuts be adjusted to an identical setting (Ref. Figure 7). One flat of
rotation on the Beta nuts (clockwise to increase or counterclockwise to decrease)
changes engine torque approximately 20 lb-ft. Adjust the Beta nuts as necessary to
bring the engine within the prescribed limits. DO NOT USE THE BETA VALVE FOR
THIS ADJUSTMENT.

8.3 Low Idle Propeller RPM Adjustment

Adjust low-idle up or down to achieve propeller RPM of 1,100 RPM +50/-0 RPM.

NOTE: Adjust as close as possible to 1,100 RPM to minimize “fast taxi”.

NOTE: Per STC SA3593NM the propeller RPM must be set at 1,100 RPM +50/-0 RPM.

8.4 Propeller Autofeathering System

Check autofeather operation (Ref. Beechcraft King Air 90 Series Maintenance Manual
