The document summarizes a failure analysis report for the railway station Bachwara. It details that on July 27th, 2022 at 9:44 AM, the station master reported that the two operator VDU terminals were not responding. The maintenance staff found that the VDU communication was lost and restarting the PC systems resolved the issue. The report recommends changing between the two VDUs daily and restarting the PCs every 14 days to prevent the system from hanging due to temporary cache files building up over long durations of use. Following the preventative maintenance procedures outlined could help prevent future communication failures at the station.

2.0 Corrective Action:
• Our engineer guided through phone call to make the VDUs operative.
• As an immediate action, PC1 & PC2 were restarted and resumed for the normal
working.
• As per OEM recommendation’s, cleared all temporary cache files and virtual
memory settings has been done in both VDU’S.
• Both VDUs are working fine after restarting the system.

3.0 Preventive and recommended action:

• We highly recommend the changeover of VDUs on Daily basis, the hardware

creates many logs & temporary caches while running the PC for longer duration.
This may cause the RAM to slowdown the PC operation & few other errors. It is
also recommended to do a restart process of both the PC’s. While restarting the
PC, the RAM gets cleared & it gives a fresh start to PC. We don’t have any limitation
of rebooting the VDU software periodically.
• It is recommended Dual VDU changeover process to be followed on daily basis.
(Refer Annexure: 1)
• It is recommended to restart the PC’s once in every 14 days.
• Our engineer is doing this activity during his monthly AMC visit.

4.0 Conclusion:

From the logs and site visit observations it is concluded that, the Changeover between
VDU’s are regularly followed by operating/Maintenance staff but the t process has not been
done for more than one month & hence both VDUs were hanged and lost
communication with EI system. We kindly request SM’s to follow PC1 & PC2
changeover process along with restart activity, as mentioned in the instruction note.

Thanking You.

• In cases of any failures like Monitor shut down, Mouse etc..) on online VDU, Station Master can no longer perform
any operations. In such cases, the Station Master can take control to another VDU to online by performing the
“Over-ride Control” operation.
• Example PC1 is online & PC2 is standby to perform the Over-Ride control (Emergency changeover) Station master
