Juan Luna Shrine, Badoc Ilocos Norte
It is the birth place of Juan Luna, one of the countries
national hero and is famous for his painting, The
Spoliarium. Juan is also the brother of Gen. Antonio
Luna who also fought for the Philippines
independence against the Americans.
Gregorio Aglipay National Shrine, Batac Ilocos Norte
Site where Archbishop GREGORIO AGLIPAY soldier,
religious reformer and patriot, was born, 8 May 1860.
Son of Pedro Aglipay and Victoria Labayan. Ordained
Catholic Priest, 1889; first Military Chaplain of the
Philippine Revolution, 1896; member of the Malolos
Congress and Vicar General of the Revolution, 1898;
and founder of the Philippine Independent Church,
1902. died 1 September 1940.
Artemio Ricarte Shrine, Batac Ilocos Norte
The Ricarte National Shrine is devoted to General
Artemio Ricarte who was born in Batac in Ilocos Norte
Province of Luzon in the Philippines. The shrine
consists of a memorial park, library and museum
located to the north of Batac municipal town hall. The
memorial plaque reads in part: "Captured by the
Americans in 1900, Ricarte was banished to Guam in
1901. Refusing to take the oath of allegiance to the
United States Government, he lived abroad, returning
to the Philippines from Japan during World War II.
Died in Barrio Nagparaon, Kalinga Mt. Province."
Paoay Church, Paoay Ilocos Norte
Paoay Church is a Roman Catholic church in Paoay,
Ilocos Norte province, completed in 1710 after 2
decades of construction. With a massive pediment
and complementary bell tower standing imposingly
on an expansive plain, the church is famous for an
architecture that blends baroque, gothic, Chinese,
and Javanese. Its official name is the Saint Augustine
Church.
Bacarra Church, Bacarra Ilocos Norte
A church established by the Agustinian order in
1593 at the site claimed to be where the hut of a
former Apayao chieftain was located. Lesser known
than its belfry the church has a wide roundabout
frontage and stuck beside it is the former convent
which is now a museum
Cape Bojeador Lighthouse National Historical Landmark, Burgos Ilocos Norte
The Cape Bojeador Lighthouse is the
Philippines' highest lighthouse in elevation,
from the Spanish colonial era that is. Set high
on Vigia de Nagpartian Hill, and overlooking
the scenic coastline of Cape Bojeador; the
octagonal stone tower on top of the building is
only 66 ft (20 m) tall. It's definitely the most
prominent structure in the area though, and
can be seen from nearby towns like Bangui and
Pasuquin.
Santa Maria Church, Santa Maria Ilocus Sur
Established in 1769, the Nuestra Señora dela
Asuncion Church or Santa Maria Church is
one of the best examples of Baroque style
architecture that was popular in the Spanish
colonial era. Its brick facade is both simple
and elegant, preserving its historical and
cultural significance across several centuries.
Seated on top of a hill, the Santa Maria
Church watches over the whole town and
continues to serve as a window to the
country’s past.
Tirad Pass National Shrine, Del Pilar Ilocus Sur
The peak of the park was created as a
national shrine in 1938 in honour of the
heroes led by Gregorio del Pilar who fought
bravely against the American soldiers during
the Fil-American War. The 6,320 ha land area
of Mt. Tirad in the province of Ilocos Sur was
the stand of Filipino Revolutionary Forces
against American in 1899.
Syquia Mansion, Vigan Ilocus Sur
The original structure was built in 1830 by the Ang
Co family and was given as dowry by Justo Angco
on his daughter Estefania’s marriage to Gregorio
Syquia in 1875. Over time, Gregorio and Estefania
added to and altered the mansion to fit their
growing family, and so also did their descendants.
The Syquia Mansion is a wonderful example of
bahay na bato architecture prevalent during the
later Spanish Colonial Era. The typical structure
consisted of a ground floor made of stone or brick
and mortar with the upper floors of wood.
Church of Tumauini, Tumauini Isabela
The Church of Tumauini or also known as the
Church of San Matias is one of the proudest
treasures that Isabela has. It was built in the year
1783 and completed by 1805. The most famous
feature of the church is its cylindrical bell tower
(cake bell tower). It is the only one of its kind here
in the country. From afar, the exterior of the
church is noticeable because of the firm red bricks
that were used as its foundation.
Old Casa Real and Provincial Capitol, Lingayen Pangasinan
The Casa Real was built in the middle of the 19th
century during the Spanish colonial period and
served as the first Provincial Capitol of Pangasinan.
It was declared as a national historical landmark by
the National Historical Commission of the
Philippines (NHCP) in 2002 due to its historical and
cultural significance as a unique example of civic
architecture from the Spanish and American
colonial periods.
Teodoro Brillantes House, Tayum Abra
The Teodoro Brillantes Ancestral House (Filipino:
Tirahang Ansestral ni Teodoro Brillantes) is a
historic residential building in Tayum, Abra,
Philippines. Listed as Teodoro Brillantes House, the
building is considered as a National Historical
Landmark by the National Historical Commission of
the Philippines.
Surrender Site of General Tomuyuki Yamashita, Kiangan Ifugao
Yamashita distinguished himself as the “Tiger of
Malaya” during World War II. After the war, he
surrendered in the Philippines, where he was tried
for war crimes by the Allied Forces.3 He was
hanged as a war criminal at 3.02 am on 23
February 1946 on Luzon Island, Manila, and
buried in a Japanese cemetery at Los Banos
Prisoner-of-war Camp, Philippine Islands.4 His
record in history is a mix of brilliance and bad luck,
and he is remembered as a higeki no shogun, a
tragic general.
Mansion House, Baguio City Benguet
This is the official summer residence of Philippine
presidents starting from Manuel Quezon. It used
to be a summer vacation palace of U.S.
Governors-General from 1908-1935. The public is
clearly not allowed to book rooms in this palace
but everyone is free to visit it.
Church, Convent and Site of the Beaterio of Sabtang, Sabtang Batanes
Sabtang Church, which was built during the
1800's, stands proud as a proof of the island's
historicity.The church and it's complex can be
found near the port and alongside the main
road that a visitor can already have a view of the
beautiful church even before the boat reaches
Sabtang port. Though easily accessible, it is
almost always left out during the so-called
historical and nature tour offered by travel
agencies operating in Batanes because of "time
constraint"
Church of Ivana, Ivana Batanes
The San Jose de Ivana Church, also known as
Ivana Church, is a Roman Catholic church
located in Ivana, Batanes, Philippines
dedicated to Saint Joseph under the
jurisdiction of the Prelature of Batanes. The
church was declared a National Historical
Landmark by the National Historical
Commission of the Philippines in
2008.HistoryThe church of Ivana was first
established by the Dominicans as a chapel in
1787.
