COLLABORATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF ICT CONTENT DEVELOPMENT
Online Collaborative Tools and Processes (Smallbiz, 2023)
Collaborative Tools are applications and programs that help people interact over a common goal. Online
collaborations involve remote people, social or professional, using tools and processes that are available to
everyone.
Compared to traditional collaboration tools such as regular whiteboards, online collaboration tools are commonly
cloud-based and assist teams in organizing, exchanging files, managing, and executing their work no matter
where the team members are located.
There are two (2) types of collaboration: Synchronous and asynchronous.
Synchronous happens when everyone exchanges information in real-time through video conferencing and
instant messaging.
The main benefit of this collaboration is that it instantaneously discusses topics and gives feedback and the
spontaneity of ideas. Although instant as it is, it is also prone to going off-topic and over time each time a new
idea comes up outside the current scope.
Asynchronous collaboration still has a sense of urgency but is mostly self-paced, such as email conversations
and voice messages.
It is best used for projects that are not a priority or require intensive thinking. It helps people focus on their
productivity and have time to respond when they are prepared with the necessary information.
Types of Online Collaboration Tools and Processes for ICT Content Development
        1. Project Management Tools – are designed for project and professional collaboration that help
assign tasks and make an information-sharing hub. It has reporting features that track team
progress and monitor individual members. It also has calendar functions, messaging, and a file-
           sharing tool.
An example is Trello which has features such as boards to keep tasks organized, lists to build team
workflow, and cards to represent tasks and ideas to be done.
        2. Shared Calendars – keep people up to date with synchronized calendars that list and schedule
           deadlines and to-do lists.
Calendars are usually free and are already included in a collaborative software suite such as
Microsoft Teams for a Microsoft 365 account. Still, calendar plugins can make scheduling meetings
            and collaborative work easier.
        3. Instant Messaging Tools – let people communicate instantly via text, voice, and files. Some instant
messaging platforms allow the creation of channels and group chats for much more efficient use.
Social media applications such as Facebook Messenger and Discord can be considered instant
messaging tools for online collaboration as the younger generation relies on their usefulness and
            efficiency for effective interaction.
        4. File Sharing Tools – keep files securely backed up and remotely stored in cloud storage for editing
and collaboration on documents in real-time. It is becoming a standard feature in professional and
           industry setups as well.

                                                                                                          ITSH2301
Google Drive and OneDrive are two of the most popular file-sharing tools that let users sync and
store personal and confidential information across multiple devices, making it readily available
            anywhere and anytime.
        5. Video Conferencing Tools – the most used online collaboration tool as it makes audio and video
meetings and seminars possible from anywhere. It offers more than instant messaging and file
sharing, such as real-time conversation, screen sharing for interactive visual collaboration, and
simultaneous breakout rooms for smaller group discussions with several people.
Most popular video conferencing tools include Zoom, Google Meet, Skype for Business, and
Microsoft Teams, aiming to make video conferencing more user-friendly and easier to navigate.
Curating Existing Content for Web Use (SocialPilot, 2023)
Online collaboration tools are just like productive tools in enhancing ICT content development. Such tools help
curate or thoughtfully organize and present ICT content further to boost awareness of various social
empowerment and changes.
Content curation is the process of finding and sharing information and message relevant to the primary audience
at hand. It is collecting content from various sources and presenting it organized.
Examples of Content Curation
        • Sharing a link or website to a blog post
        • Sharing someone’s work on social media
        • A compilation of videos and audio
        • A roundup of quoted advice from experts
        • A collage of images of products or digital art
Content Curation Strategies (Social Media Today, 2019)
        1. Choosing the Correct Content: Having content that is useful to the creator and the audience is
essential in selecting the right content. If the curated content is far from their interest, it will become
worthless and drive people away from the focus.
Simply searching on Google can help, as well as seeking out what is relevant in social media. Only
share the best content possible, as the opposite can easily hurt the overall messaging
        2. Personalized Thoughts: Curated content is not always original, but it is advisable to always add
thoughts that reflect perspectives related to the main message.
Summarizing curated content is ideal as it highlights most related details without losing focus. Even
a simple question leading up to the curated content can help drive engagement.
        3. Socialize: It is best to tag the original creators when sharing their content, that is, if reaching out to
them to get approval or permission has not been done yet.
Reaching out online is an easier way to get noticed, which can lead to various opportunities. Failure
to copyright is a big concern to acknowledge before publishing.
        4. Publishing Content at the Right Time: Knowing when the majority are using social media is
essential. It is ideal for publishing in the morning as it creates a point of discussion for the whole
           day.

  student.feedback@sti.edu Page 2 of 4
                                                                                                       ITSH2301
Research which timeframe people are away from their work desks or when they are spending their
leisure time on social media; this way, many can interact and engage with the content.

        2. Pocket – stores a significant amount of relevant content for later use. It is a plugin tool for web and
mobile browsers that lets users easily bookmark and remember websites when using the Internet.
It is best for beginners and startups.
        3. Flipboard – a user friendly-tool with a simple and effective design for rich content. It lets users
create a mini magazine for the audience, which can also be added with video, music, or textual
           information.

The Nature and Purposes of Online Platforms and Applications (Naylor 2021)
Online platforms and applications are integral to today’s digital generation. Digitalization has increased at an
unprecedented rate in helping everyone transition from traditional ways of communication to more advanced
technologies.
Nature and Purposes of Online Platforms and Applications
        1. Facilitates faster interaction: The reliance on online services has increased, from education and
entertainment to connecting and communication, to express oneself, produce and use content, and
           find jobs, transportation, and accommodations.
Online platforms have made this all possible at the tip of the finger with one single click or tap. The
risks are there but can easily be avoided and resolved, but the benefits and advantages are
rewarding, and using online platforms is becoming a privilege.
        2. Diverse business models: Opportunities are just waiting on the Internet for people to grab and
use. Spaces for marketplaces, social networks, app stores, and online travel platforms are
enormous, and everyone can find their niche.
Online platforms and applications have presented equal footing for everyone with access to them.
It is no longer just for people with the most resources but also for people willing to succeed.
        3. Social empowerment: Social change is one of the most significant impacts of online platforms and
applications. Powerful messages addressing social, political, environmental, and economic
concerns spread and reach a more comprehensive range of people than ever.
It makes it possible for people to come together under one common goal to benefit minorities and
people from other walks of life who cannot experience an equal or fairer share of social justice.
