Model Number Description

MS3985 120 V ac Common Talk Station

MS3986 120 V ac Master Station
MS3987 120 V ac Hands-free (Slave) Station
MS3988 12 V dc Common Talk Station
MS3990 12 V dc Hands-free (Slave) Station

Operation
RigCom Stations are designed to provide basic communications in Division 1 (hazardous) areas. RigCom
systems can consist of common talk stations or master and slave stations. Common talk standard station
Model MS3985 (120 V ac) and MS3988 (12 V dc) operate in a push-to-talk and release-to-listen manner.

In the master/slave system, the master station operation is push-to-talk, release-to-listen. The hands-free
slave station is normally in the “talk” mode. When the master station pushes the button to talk, the
hands-free slave station switches to the “listen” mode. Communications are controlled by the master
station. Only one slave station can be connected to a master. Model MS3986 (120 V ac) Master Station
can be used in conjunction with either the Model MS3987 (120 V ac) or MS3990 (12 V dc) Hands-free
Slave Station.

Note: If the Model MS3990 Slave Station (12 V dc) is used, the power feeds to each station must be
separate.

Mounting and Installation

See the connection drawings provided with the unit for specific details. To maintain the explosion-proof
integrity of these stations, all hardware is located outside the enclosure. The suggested mounting height for
all stations is 54 inches (137 cm) from the ground to the center of the unit.
Note: Mounting hardware is not included and must be provided by the customer.

Common talk stations can be daisy-chained together and require five conductors—three for power
(14 gauge) and two for audio. The master station and the slave station require six conductors—three for
power (14 gauge), two for audio, and one to key the master/slave operation.

To install the RigCom system in hazardous areas, see the national and/or local electrical codes.
