1. Why did Rizal decide to study abroad?


- He aspired to be an ophthalmologist so that he might help her mother recover from
an ailment of the eyes. He also desired to learn about European cultures, laws, and
governments in order to assist his fellow citizens.

2. What entry did Rizal submit in Liceo Artistico Literario de Manila in 1879?
- He submitted an entry entitled A La Juventud Filipina (To the Filipino Youth).

3. Who are the three tutors of Rizal when he was young?


- Maestro Celestino, Maestro Lucas Padua, and Leon Monroy.

4. What is Rizal’s purpose in annotating Successos de las Islas Filipinas?


- To reawaken Filipinos' awareness of their magnificent old ways and to clarify the
misconceptions about the Philippines that have arisen as a result of the Spanish Conquest.

- It is a campaign for reforms wherein students who participated on this movement
wanted to assimilate Philippines as a regular province of Spain as well as promoting the

2. Cite particular occasions or events given in the book where Rizal showed, manifested,
or participated the traits and virtues listed above.

• Love for God - When he was studying in abroad, Rizal assured his mother of his trust
in God. He said that "We have been born in the midst of a society whose political
life is so anomalous that we have no other hope but to submit. Whichever is preferable,
conscience will decide. Let us then trust in God and in the sincerity of our intention."
• Love for Parents – When he said that “I begged my beloved parents to always bless their
son”
• Love for Country – Rizal is really admirable because of his unconditional love for his
country. He elaborated that “My dream was my country’s prosperity.”
• Courage – When he had a courage enough to fight for his countrymen without fearing of
being died.

3. Examine carefully Dr. Rizal’s important traits and virtues, compare them with
your own traits and virtues, and decide if you would like him to be your role
model.

4. Is it important for an individual to have role model? Explain your answer.


• I believed that it is important for an individual to have a role model because it is
good foundation for us to have a better self. Having a role model influences us to do
more and motivate in any things we do. They are the person who we look up to ad help
us to attain the self we aspired to be.
5. What is the advantage of having Rizal as a role model? Will it increase the
chances of becoming an ideal Filipino citizen and a successful professional?
• Having a role model is very essential for us in shaping ourselves. Having Rizal as a
model is an advantage because he has traits and values which is really ideal and would
really helps us to grow more. Him, being a role model would inspire us to improve
ourselves in many aspects in our lives. Thus, it will increase our chances of becoming an
ideal Filipino citizen and a successful professional.

Sanskrit. He also translated the poetry of schiller into Tagalog. Moreover, he also know
Malay, Chavacano, Cebuano, Ilocano, and Sebanun.
• I think with all the members of Jose Rizal’s family, his mother was the one who has been
the most influential to his life. His mother was the one who gave birth to him, the one
who affects him in many aspects of his life like introducing him in poetry. His mother
guided him when she was still alive and helps Rizal to grow into a fine man.
• I can say that his relationship with his parents and siblings was really closed like what we
could see in some families. The one who supports and respects each other no matter what
happens. A relationship who could help you to be a better version of yourself.
