Role of NGOs in human rights
protection
• The Vienna Conference in 1993 conducted by the United Nations, which
    was attended by roughly around 840 NGOs around the world, pledged for
    a combined human rights mission.

    providing assistance to victims suffering from human rights violations

  NGOs in the world founded in 1961

  and ensures that they are followed.
• In 1977, Amnesty International was awarded the Nobel
  Peace Prize.
• Recent projects taken by the organization include ensuring
  human rights are not violated in Israel and Palestine-
  occupied areas, pressing for an international investigation
  into Beirut explosion in Lebanon, providing humanitarian
  aid to war-torn Syria, helping with COVID-19 relief work,
  ensuring LGBTQ equality, and sexual reproductive rights
  around the world.

  rights focused movement

  refugees,children affected by armed conflict etc.

• Association for Women’s Rights in
  Development (AWID) is a collective of
  professionals fighting for women’s rights
• for equal status between genders
• World Oganisation against Torture fights
  against detention, forced disappearences,
  torture etc.
• Milaan Foundation is an NGO in India that
  basically works towards empowering small
  girls across the country.
• This organisation ensures underprivileged
  girls get all the basic requirements and proper
  training to stand up for themselves in the
  future.
• Till now, the organisation has worked and
  helped around 40,000 children in the country.
• Child in need institute is a non-profit
  organisation registered under the Societies
  Registration Act,1860 in India.

            Human Rights Council
• United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is
   constituted to promote and protect human
   rights around the world.
 - The Council has 47 members and has its headquarters
   at the United Nations Office at Geneva in Switzerland.
• The Council replaced the United Nations Commission
   on Human Rights in 2006
• The Council works closely with the Office of the High
   Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and engages
   the United Nations special procedures
• Directly responsible subsidiary bodies include
  1.Universal Periodic Review Working Group to review
  reports
• 2. Advisory Committee which succeeded the
     Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection
  of Human Rights in 2007 to provide expert advice
• Complaint procedure to handle gross violations with
  the help of two working groups
• Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
• Forum on Minority Issues
