managed by five member trustees hailed from the same project area. Our main focus is to encounter
this social evil in the society, To kick start the income generating activity in their area. We concentrate
more on Dalit’s, communities for their holistic development. All our projects are participatorily evolved
and evaluated at all levels. We ensure transperancy.
Main focuses of the Project :
SPSSD- trust is focused on long term development , tackling the root causes of the poverty working directly
with the women and girls to help them and improve the quality of their holistic lives and income generating
development activity .
Executive summary :
The project communities of the organization are Dalits, and the Socially Backward community who
have no access to education, and health. Their rights are denied and are not included in the
decision making process in the community administration set up. Their main source of income is
quarry working and agriculture labor and daily wages. They are landless and go for only daily
wages. This people have to work very hard to get their daily bread . Due to their economical
status they are not in a position to send their children to higher study’s. and force them in to same
work. to spoil their bright future, specially for women and girls, because of their old community set
up. More over these community people never give importance to women and girls , We have been
working among these communities and our main focus is to provide Basic skilled training to the
women and girls of this community. We have a plan to start this tailoring skill training center in
our project area it self..
About Dalit community :
In the context of traditional Hindu society, Dalit status has often been historically associated with
occupations regarded as ritually impure, such as any involving leatherwork, butchering, or removal
of rubbish, animal carcases, and waste. Dalits work as manual labourers cleaning streets, latrines,
and sewers. Engaging in these activities was considered to be polluting to the individual, and this
pollution was considered contagious. As a result, Dalits were commonly segregated, and banned
from full participation in Hindu social life. For example, they could not enter a temple nor a school,
2
and were required to stay outside the village. Elaborate precautions were sometimes observed to
prevent incidental contact between Dalits and other castes. Discrimination against Dalits still exists
in rural areas in the private sphere, in everyday matters such as access to eating places, schools,
temples and water sources. It has largely disappeared in urban areas and in the public sphere.
Some Dalits have successfully integrated into urban Indian society, where caste origins are less
obvious and less important in public life. In rural India, however, caste origins are more readily
apparent and Dalits often remain excluded from local religious life, though some qualitative
evidence suggests that its severity is fast diminishing. The word "Dalit" comes from the Marathi
language, and means "ground", "suppressed", "crushed", or "broken to pieces". It was first used by
Jyotirao Phule in the nineteenth century, in the context of the oppression faced by the erstwhile
"untouchable" castes of the twice-born Hindus. Adi Dravida", "Adi Karnataka" and "Adi Andhra" are
words used in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, respectively, to identify
people of former "untouchable" castes in official documents. These words, particularly the prefix of
"Adi", denote the aboriginal inhabitants of the land.
