Malcolm X was a prominent African American civil rights activist in the 1950s and 1960s. He advocated for black nationalism and spoke publicly against racism. Originally a spokesperson for the Nation of Islam, he promoted black independence and criticized Martin Luther King Jr.'s nonviolent approach. Later in life, Malcolm X broke with the Nation of Islam and adopted a more orthodox Sunni Islam, advocating for human rights by any means necessary. He was assassinated in 1965 at the age of 39.

Malcolm X spent six and a half years in jail
