BY THEIR FRUITS
Introduction
Matthew 7:15-20 - Did we notice the repetition? Most times warnings are the ones repeated
twice. By their fruit you’ll know them means you’ll recognize them by the fruit they produce.
#1 Fruit production can last till old age
Psalm 92:13-15 – In old age, they will still bear fruit (still implies continuously)
The scripture talks about fruits first in Genesis 1:11 - 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth
grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in
itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
The bible uses fruits in statement like
   ▪ Fruit of the womb (physically and mental) Genesis 30:2 Jacob, Deut 7:13
   ▪ Fruit of thy labour (work) Exodus 23:16
   ▪ Fruit of thy body – Overall output (work, effort, your children etc) Deut 28:11
        (Blessing), Deut 28:18 - Cursed
   ▪ Fruit of the land (Lev 23:39, Numbers 13:20) – Gen 26:12 – Isaac sowed

In conclusion
We are representatives of Christ - 2 Cor 5:20. Let’s end by looking at John 15:4-9
4
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain
in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear
much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like
a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the
fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you
wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit,
showing yourselves to be my disciples.
9
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.
John 15: 1-4
15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that
bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even
more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in
me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither
can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
fruits are we producing? Do they look at us and see Jesus? The Apostles were called
Christians because they saw Jesus reflecting in them.
John 15:4 – 9 – He that abides in me bears much fruit. This means you can’t produce good
fruit outside Jesus.
Your fruit may be terrible in the past, but 2 Cor 5:17 tells me that all things are new.
Make changes from today.
