General Information:
This is for information that the youths of the state who are permanent residents of Assam and
aspiring to take up teaching as a profession at elementary level may apply to appear in the Pre-Entry Test
(PET)-2023 for admission into 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) course for the
session 2023-2025inthe NCTE recognised Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) of the state.
It is to be noted that acquiring of this diploma by a person will not automatically be enable to claim
for recruitment in any Govt. elementary schools.
Applications are therefore, invited from the intending candidates having aptitude to serve with
dedication as teachers in Elementary Schools for admission into the 2-yearDiploma in Elementary
Education (D.El.Ed.) course for the session 2023-2025.
Admission will be open for each Teacher Education Institute (i.e. DIET, CTE, Normal School, BTC
and Private Institutes). District wise merit list will be prepared and allotment will be made in Teacher
Education Institutes (TEIs) in the districts as per merit and availability of seats. In each district there will
be reservation of 30% of total seats for candidates having Science stream and 70% of total seats for Arts
& other streams.
Course Structure:
The course will be of 2-year duration consisting of 4 semesters.
Eligibility Criteria for applying for Pre-Entry Test(PET)-2023:
i) The candidate must have passed Higher Secondary (HS) [10+2] examination from
recognized Boards/Councils with at least 50% marks in aggregate excluding marks secured in the
optional/extra/fourth subject.
[For candidates belonging to SC/ST(P)/ST(H) category there will be relaxation of 5% of
marks in aggregate excluding marks secured in the optional/extra/fourth subject].
ii) The candidate must be a permanent resident of Assam.
iii) The candidate must not be less than 18 years and not more than 34 years as on 1 st July,
2023. There will be relaxation by 2 years in upper age for candidates belonging to SC, ST(P) &
ST(H) categories.
How to Apply: Candidates can apply online to appear in the Pre-Entry Test (PET)-2023 by
logging into the portal https://www.scertpet.co.in
Application Fees: Rs. 600.00 (Rupees Six Hundred Only) for all categories to be paid online
through Internet Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card etc. during online submission of application form.
Selection Procedure:
The candidates will have to appear in the Pre-Entry Test (PET)-2023 of 100 marks
comprising of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). District wise Merit list of the candidates will
be prepared on the basis of marks secured in Pre-Entry Test (PET) by the candidates.
Total Intake Capacity for conducting the course is 4200.
Course Fee:
i. For Govt. TEIs i.e. DIET/CTE/Normal School/BTC payable per semester:
Admission fee : Rs.50/- to be paid at the time of admission.
Tution fee : Rs.50/- per month.
Examination fee : Rs. 800/- for each regular semester end evaluation.

Electricity charges : (i) Rs.35/- per month for the candidates staying in the hostel.
(ii) Rs. 25/- per month for the candidates staying outside.
ii. For Private Institutes payable per semester:-
Total fees is Rs 27,000/- (Twenty Seven Thousand) only per year. It includes admission,
tuition fees etc.
Mode of payment for candidates selected for admission: Will be notified later on.
N.B. Admission fee as well as tuition fee will be deposited in the Govt. exchequer by The Principals
of TEIs through Treasury Challan in the head of account “0202’’-Education. The divisible pool formed by
the examination fee will be shared by SBTE and TEIs @ Rs 400/- each.
POST ADMISSION CRITERIA:
(i) A student who is found absent from classes continuously for 5 (five) working days and
students whose attendance is found to be below 80% of total 15 (fifteen) working days from the
very first day of class of the session then his/her admission will be cancelled by the concerned
Principal and vacancies caused thereof shall be filled up from the waiting lists. However, if a
student cannot attend classes for his/her health problem in that case he/she will have to intimate the
concerned Principal in written form along with medical certificate for consideration.
(ii) Students whose attendance is below 75% of the total working days of a semester will
not be allowed to appear in the semester end evaluation.
(iii) Hostel accommodation will be provided free of cost subject to availability of hostels and seats.
However, the students will have to carry their bedding, bucket, mug, dish, glass, etc. for their personal
use. In the event of non-availability of hostel facilities, the candidates will have to arrange their
accommodation themselves.
iv) Cost of food will have to be borne by the students themselves.
v) Breaking of any institutional discipline will be dealt with strictly which may cause
disqualification for appearing in the semester end evaluation/s.
vi) A student has to secure 50% of total marks to pass for each internal and external paper of
semester end evaluation of 2-year D.El.Ed. Course.
vii) If a student fails in certain papers in a semester end evaluation in that case, he/she can repeat
maximum 3 (three) papers. If a student fails in more than 3 (three) papers then he/she will have to appear
for the entire papers of the concerned semester. Unsuccessful students of any semester will be given only
TWO more chances consecutively to clear the concerned semester by appearing together with the next
semester end evaluation. Moreover, there is a provision of re-evaluation of answer scripts with an
application fee of Rs. 300/- per paper.

A) After declaration of district wise result with score & category wise rank, online
counseling will be held where candidates will have to mandatorily give their preferences
of TEIs where he/she intends to study. However, candidates will be allotted in their
preferred TEI based on their score and category.
B) In each district 30% of total intake capacity will be reserved for candidates having Science
stream and 70% for Arts &other streams. District wise merit list of candidates for (i)
Science and (ii) Arts & other streams will be prepared separately as per reservation policy.
C) Reservation of seats for the candidates belonging to reserved categories including
OBC/MOBC, SC/ST(P)/ST(H)/Person with Disability (PWD)/ EWS will be as per
Reservation Policy.
D) The following categories of Person with Disability (PWD) will be considered for
admission subject to maintenance of benchmark disability that means a person
with not less than forty per cent:
i. Visually Impaired (VI)
ii. Hearing Impaired (HI)
iii. Orthopedically Handicapped (OH)

authority may cancel my candidature immediately with disciplinary action if anyone produce
evidence of my engagement in any other regular courses or department in the same academic
year and in the event of any information/document being found false or not satisfying any of the

Filling of OMR SHEET and Marking system:
There will be four sets of Question Booklet (A/B/C/D). Candidate will have to
answer only one Question Booklet. Candidate should note that OMR Answer Sheet shall be
used for indicating the answers. The evaluation of OMR sheet will be done with the help of
software. No manual evaluation of OMR sheet shall be done. The performance of the
candidates shall be evaluated both on the basis of correct and incorrect responses recorded
on the OMR sheet. For each correct response 1 (one) mark will be secured by the candidate.
There will be negative marking for every incorrect response. For every incorrect response,
0.25 mark shall be deducted from the marks secured by the candidate for correct responses.
If more than one response is given to a question then the answer will be treated as incorrect
response.While appearing in the test candidates should follow the instructions given in the
Question Booklet, OMR sheet & Admit Card and carefully fill up the relevant particulars like

❖ Register in the Portal using valid mobile number.
