WHERE IS COLOMBIA?

north of South America.

● It has coasts in the

Pacific and the Atlantic.
HISTORY
 COLOMBIA
• It is a sovereign country located in the northwestern region of South America. It is constituted in
a unitary, social and democratic State of law whose form of government is presidential with two
legislative chambers. Its capital and most populated city is Bogotá. It is a republic politically
organized into thirty-two decentralized departments and the Capital District of Bogotá, seat of
the national government.
• The name Colombia derives from the Italian surname of the 15th century explorer Christopher
Columbus. It was adopted on February 15, 1819, during the Angostura Congress, to name the
new nation that then integrated the territories of New Granada, Quito and the General
Captaincy of Venezuela.

The music in Colombia
● It’s influenced by Spanish,
indigenous and African elements
that formed that nation.

● Colombia is known as "the country

of a thousand rhythms" because it
has more than 1025 folkloric rhythms.

● There are three types of Colombian

music: cumbia, vallenato and
currulao.

● In the interior there are two large

groups: Andean and Llanera; that of
the coasts is clearly differentiated
between Atlantic and Pacific.
TOURISM
 TOURISM IN COLOMBIA
• The history of tourism in Colombia dates back to June 17, 1954 with the formal
creation of the Colombian Association of Hotels in Barranquilla. On October 25,
1955, the Association of International Airlines in Colombia was formed in Bogotá.
• Most of the foreign tourists who visit Colombia come from neighboring countries in
Latin America and the Caribbean, North America and Europe.
