Introduction
The Mandaya tribes refers to a
number of indigenous groups found
along the mountain ranges of
Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte,
and Surigao del Sur.

In terms of their cultural heritage


they are known to be rich among
the groups. They are
knowledgeable enough in weaving,
pottery, bead crafting, driftwood
products and musically talented
tribe.
JEWELRY MAKING
Mandaya jewelry
-Beautiful intricately bead work
- mostly fashioned at home into exquisite
red, black, white, and yellow earrings,
bracelets, chokers, as well as apron-like
multi-colored necklaces.

CULTURAL HERITAGE
WEAVING

The Mandaya people of Davao Oriental are


known for their masterful ikat (a weaving
pattern) in abaca, the primary fiber they use for
weaving. One of their most popular textiles is
called dagmay, a handwoven cloth designed
with patterns of man and crocodile, for which
the Mandaya weavers are known for.
WOMENS CLOTHING

The bado(blouse or collarless jacket) is a


red with contrasting fabric accents, either
blue or black color adorned with
geometric designs of thread and beads at
the back, front and sleeves. This is paired
with the dagmay skirt, in flabby tabular
form pleated on one side and hels by a
thin brown capis or a braided abaca
MENS
CLOTHING
Dagum(shirt) is either a long-sleeved or three-fourth in length
collarless jacket with open front down to the hipline used by men
with a pair of pantot (short pants) the pocket less blue trouser ,
slack on the hipline tapering down to the knees is guided by a
braided abaca belt both embroidered with knitted threads of red,
blue, yellow and white with the embellishments done with the same
geometric designs.
