Things we need to consider on preparing an Instructional Plan

Teaching visual arts can be very complicated and difficult especially if you don’t possess
enough materials, and resources even a facility can hinder your ability to teach on this field. So
on this part we will discuss the things we need to consider on preparing the instructional plan.

Why Instructional Planning Matters in Visual Arts?

 Establishes clear objectives and goals for the lesson.

 Ensures a structured and organized learning environment

 Maximize student engagement and creativity.

Components of an Instructional Plan

 Learning objectives: Developing specific art skills or exploring artistic concepts.

 Content: Introduction to different techniques, styles, or artists.

 Instructional strategies: Hands-on art-making activities, demonstrations, and

discussions.

 Assessment methods: Assessing student artwork, self-reflections, and peer critiques.

The Flexibility and Adaptability in Visual Arts

 Importance of allowing artistic exploration and individual expression.

 Adapting activities based on student interests and strengths.

Example: Modifying a lesson to incorporate a new art technique based on students’ feedback.
Effective Classroom Management in the Art Classroom

 Establishing rules for art materials and workspace organization.

 Engaging students through art-related discussions and critiques.

 Providing constructive feedback to foster artistic growth.

Assessment of Student’s Understanding in Visual Arts

 Evaluating student artwork based on the established criteria and objectives.

 Using formative assessment strategies like self-reflections and peer critiques.

 Adjusting teaching strategies based on students’ unique artistic processes and progress.
Reflecting and Continuous Improvement in Visual Arts

 Reflecting on each art lesson’s outcome and effectiveness.

 Identifying areas for improvement and growth in art instruction.

 Incorporating feedback and making necessary adjustments to enhance student
creativity.
On Preparing the Instructional Plan we also need to consider the following:

 The necessary art materials and resources.

 Sequence of activities for optimal skill-building and artistic development.

 Adaptation to the lesson plan to accommodate individual student interests and abilities.

Careful Selection of Materials and Consideration of the Availability of

Resources
Choosing the right media is crucial when planning an art activity. Sometimes you have to
improvise because materials might not be available or enough to accommodate the class. So
on this part of the presentation we are going to show you a way on how to select materials
carefully while also considering the availability of the resources according to the following:

 Research and select materials that are readily available in your local area. This ensures
that you can easily replenish supplies and reduces the need for shipping or ordering
from distant sources.

 Consider using recycled or repurposed materials. Encourage children to think creatively

by using materials that are readily available in their everyday surroundings, such as
cardboard, newspaper, or plastic bottles. This not only helps to conserve resources but
also teaches children about the importance of reusing and recycling.

 Look for materials with a low environmental impact. Choose art supplies made from
natural or sustainable resources, such as bamboo brushes or non-toxic paints. Avoid
materials that contain harmful chemicals or contribute to deforestation or pollution.

 Talk to local artists or art supply stores to find out about environmentally friendly or
locally sourced alternatives. They may have recommendations for materials that are
both sustainable and suitable for teaching visual arts to children.

 Teach children about the availability of resources and the importance of responsible
consumption. Use this as an opportunity to discuss topics such as conservation,
resource scarcity, and sustainable practices. Encourage children to think critically about
the materials they use and how their choices impact the environment.

 Incorporate nature into art lessons. Take advantage of natural materials like leaves,
flowers, or sticks, and explore outdoor activities that connect art with the environment.
This helps children develop an appreciation for the natural world and reduces the need
for materials that require extensive production or transportation.

 Encourage children to experiment with found objects. Encourage them to explore their
surroundings and incorporate objects they find into their artwork. This not only
encourages resourcefulness and creativity but also reduces the need for additional
materials.
 Involve parents and families in sourcing materials. Encourage them to donate unused art
supplies or provide input on sustainable alternatives that may be available within the
community. This fosters a sense of community engagement and shared responsibility
for resource conservation.

Time Management
What is Time Management?
Time management is the process of organizing and planning how to divide your time between
different activities. Get it right, and you’ll end up working smarter, not harder, to get more done
in less time – even when time is tight and pressures are high. The highest achievers manage
their time exceptionally well.
Benefits of Time Management

The benefits of managing time are simple. Good time management allows you to accomplish
bigger results in a shorter period which leads to more time freedom, helps you focus better,
allows you to be more productive, lowers your stress and gives you more time to spend with the
people that matter most.
Ways on How to Manage Time
Managing time in instructional planning for visual arts can be crucial for effective teaching and
learning. Here are a few ways to help you manage time effectively in instructional planning for
visual arts:

1. Create a clear lesson plan: Develop a well-structured and detailed lesson plan that
outlines the objectives, activities, materials needed, and estimated time for each
segment of the lesson. This will help you stay organized and manage your time
efficiently.

2. Prioritize learning outcomes: Identify the essential learning outcomes for each lesson
and focus on those aspects that are most important. This will help you allocate your
time effectively and ensure that you address the key concepts and skills.

3. Break down tasks: Divide larger tasks into smaller, manageable segments. By breaking
down activities and tasks, you can plan specific timeframes for each part, making it
easier to stay on track and complete them within the allocated time.

4. Use instructional strategies and resources wisely: Select instructional strategies and
resources that align with your objectives and make the most efficient use of time.
Choose techniques that allow for active engagement, such as hands-on activities or
group discussions, which can maximize learning opportunities within a given timeframe.

5. Incorporate time management techniques: Utilize time management techniques like

setting deadlines, using timers or alarms, and keeping track of time spent on each
activity. These techniques can help you stay focused, avoid time-wasting activities, and
ensure that you maintain a steady pace throughout the lesson.

6. Reflect and refine: After each lesson, take some time to reflect on how effectively you
managed your time. Consider what worked well and what could be improved. Use this
feedback to refine your instructional planning and time management strategies for
future lessons.

Remember, effective time management in instructional planning is a skill that develops with
practice. By implementing these strategies and adapting them to your teaching style, you can
enhance your ability to manage time effectively in visual arts instruction.
