AIM:-Visit a construction site and write a report on it.
OBJECTIVE:-
Students is to provide them with practical exposure and hands-on learning by
1 . To get an Understanding how the theoretical knowledge is fitted in practice .
2. To gain experience in building material science.
3. To develop our report writing skills.
5. To study the various construction materials type of structures type of Foundations
   and component of superstructure.
BUILDING SITE:-
The building I choose for for visiting was Residential building I was go there and
observed the building and asked some questions.
Name of building -Residential building.
Location: - plot No 165-166 Vidya Nagar Behind Indira Devi town Near NIT Ground
wathoda 35 Nagpur Maharashtra 440017 Bharat.
Structural Designer: - Sagar Balani
Site Engineer: - Prem Porkute
Date of Visit :- 25/09/2023
Status of work :-Under construction
Reasons for choosing this site
The main reason for choosing this site for observation process and to see the theoretical
knowledge being fitted in practice is that this construction site was Implementing all
that theory we have gone through at this stage eg. Use of bricks , use of different ratios
mortar and cement, use of different aggregates and concrete like pcc, rcc, etc.
Materials of Construction 1.Murum:-
For filling foundation surrounding and plinth filling , hard murum is used.
2.Bricks:
                                            3
For the construction of main and partition walls, second class bricks are used on the
site. When certain field observations are carried on the bricks, it will observed that the
bricks are of low quality and are not satisfying the Indian standard specifications.
3.Fine aggregates(sand):
For making concrete and mortar, artificial sand is used. It should be observed that , the
sand should not be uniformly graded( of uniform particle sizes) and dust content is also
high. Such sand tend to lower strength of concrete. Observation had proved that the
replacement of natural sand up to 38% with artificial sand will not affect the concrete
strength but more use will definitely reduces the strength of concrete.
4.Coarse Aggregates:
Around 70% strength of concrete is mainly due to the course aggregate the aggregate
used at site are having 12mm Size.
5.Cement:
Cement is a important ingredient of concrete. It do not have much strength but will acts
as a binder material for coarse and fine aggregates. Cement used at site is master
premium cement.
6.Steel:-
It is extensively used building material. On site, HYSD (High Yielding Deformed
Steel) bars and mild steel bars are used. Mild steel bars of 6 mm Ø are used as nominal
steel and HYSD with sizes 8 mm, 12 mm, 16mm, 20 mm, 25mm, 32mm are used as
main steel for various members of superstructure.
7.Concrete:
PCC and RCC are used on the site as per requirements and design standards. For
manufacturing of concrete, hand mixing and mechanical mixing (by tilting mixer)
process is adopted. It is observed that while mixing the concrete in the mixer, the
standard procedure is not followed and care should not be taken towards the grading
of concrete.
8.Formwork:
Formwork is a support and act as mould for placing and giving proper sizes to the
various concrete members. It is also act as abase for resting the reinforcement and help
the workers in various building activities.
9.Water:
                                            4
For the construction, potable water must be used. But on the site, it is observed that the
waste water is utilized for various processes which must be avoided.
10.Mortar:
For the construction of brick walls, and for plastering, the Mortar is used on the site
the Mortar will be prepared by hand mixing process from sand and cement.
Equipments Used
Various construction equipments are used on the site for the various
construction activities. Some of these that has been seen on site along with
their uses are as follows:-
1.Iron Pan (or Ghamela): For filling and placing the material at requires
place.
2.Line and Pins: For alignment of various building members.
3.Rammer: For compacting the soil surface and compacting the ground.
4.Travel: For placing, compacting or plastering by mortar in case of brick
masonry construction.
5.Plumb bob: For checking the verticality of various members
6.Spirit level: For checking horizontal level.
7.Kassi or Phawrah: For material filling or mixing.
8.Steel Tape: For vertical and horizontal measurement.
9.Mason’s square: For fixing and checking the building corners.
10.Tilting Mixer: For preparing concrete.
11.Plate Vibrator: For compacting plinth and the ground
12.Niddle Vibrator: For compacting the concrete in vertical and horizontal
members.
                                            5
                                  INTRODUCTION
I visited a residential building that building was Ground floor + 6 storey building
layout, but the work of that building was done till now till 2nd floor And the process
of constructive was going on it was not a house but a flat scheme.
This flat provides a 2 bedroom house and is also luxurious as per the Vastu plan. The
flat provides the convenience of dedicated parking and this is a key position. The
facility of lift is also available here and the environment here is very fresh.

Future of that project.
This project will be in high demand in the future And will be very durable as the can
resist the earthquake.
Buildings of the Future will no longer be rigid structures that can’t change: by design,
they will adapt and their spaces will be adaptable without significant building
modifications. This could give rise to a greater degree of modular or off-site
construction. Printed buildings will be the future within 10 years.
The factors which created difficulties in work.
Inadequate risk management.
Lack of structures
Poor communication
Bad Forecasting
Delayed cash flow
Limited skills

Various work and things which we had seen on site:
                                            8
We had seen how the restoration of steel and concrete was done from the demolition
base slum. As they where using the restore or reuse process for steel and concrete by
crushing and moulding them.
They sad they are using the concrete in reuse for pavement in nearby areas.
For segregation of steel using of gas cutter, dumping trucks for debris, collectors for
piece of steel, etc.
Equipments of machine, workers, site explorers, and also some safety engineer’s,
fencing of steel sheets for no traffic approach.
Cost of Demolition
Demolition value was calculated for the work which they have to takeover there way
of work As the cost value for execution was around 2-3cr. And 1 cr around for steel
value.
Use of Advanced Machines
There was using of advanced Machines for demolition like
BIG excavators, with nummatic drills
Crusher
