GLORIA
COLLECT
LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14b-16a

He gave you a food unknown to you and your fathers.

Moses said to the people:

“Remember how for forty years now the LORD, your God, has directed all your journeying in the desert, so
as to test you by affliction and find out whether or not it was your intention to keep his commandments.
He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger, and then fed you with manna, a food unknown to you and
your fathers, in order to show you that not by bread alone does one live, but by every word that comes
forth from the mouth of the LORD.
“Do not forget that the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery;
who guided you through the vast and terrible desert with its saraph serpents and scorpions, its parched
and waterless ground; who brought forth water for you from the filthy rock and fed you in the desert with
manna, a food unknown to your fathers.”

Lector: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 147:12-13, 14-15, 19-20

V. Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem; V. He has proclaimed his word to Jacob,

praise your God, O Zion. his statutes and his ordinances to Israel.
For he has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has not done thus for any other nation;
he has blessed your children within you. R. his ordinances he has not made known to them. R.

V. He has granted peace in your borders;

with the best of wheat he fills you.
He sends forth his command to the earth;
swiftly runs his word! R.

SECOND READING 2 Corinthians 13:11-13

The bread is one, and we, though many, are one body.

Brothers and sisters:

The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break,
is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one
body, for we all partake of the one loaf.

Lector: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

CORPUS CHRISTI SEQUENCE (shortened)
A sequence is a chant or hymn that meditates on a particular mystery of the faith and sung to mark special occasions
on the liturgical calendar. Whereas its role in the Mass has varied over the centuries, in the modern Church there
remain 4 in widespread use: 2 are required for Easter and Pentecost, and 2 are optional for Corpus Christi (today’s
Mass) and the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, often also recited at Stations of the Cross.

Lauda Sion, the sequence for the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, is recited today in its optional shortened
form, but the full version may be read at bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/061123.cfm.

Laud, O Zion, your salvation, Lo! the angel’s food is given Very bread, good shepherd, tend us,
Laud with hymns of exultation, To the pilgrim who has striven; Jesu, of your love befriend us,
Christ, your king and shepherd true: See the children’s bread from heaven, You refresh us, you defend us,
which on dogs may not be spent. Your eternal goodness to see
Bring him all the praise you know, In the land of life to see.
He is more than you bestow.
Never can you reach his due. Truth the ancient types fulfilling, You who all things can and know,
Isaac bound, a victim willing, Who on earth such food bestow,
… Paschal Lamb, its lifeblood spilling, Grant us with your saints, though
manna to the fathers sent. lowest,
Where the heav’nly feast you show,
Fellow heirs and guests to be.

Amen. Alleluia.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION John 6:51

Celtic Alleluia (Gather #266)

I am the living bread that came down from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live forever.

GOSPEL John 6:51-58

Deacon or Priest: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Deacon or Priest: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
All: Glory to you, O Lord.

My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

Jesus said to the Jewish crowds:
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the
bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Jesus said to
them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do
not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him
on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks
my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the
Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down
from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

Deacon or Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Please remain standing until the Book of the Gospels is enthroned upon its stand.

HOMILY

NICENE CREED (bow during bolded passage)

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in
one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from
Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the
Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was
buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at
the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have
no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with
the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic,
and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the
dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

UNIVERSAL PRAYER
Lector: We pray to the Lord. All: Lord, hear our prayer.

1. Blessed are those whose way is blameless, * 3. The law from your mouth means more to me *

Blessed are those who keep his decrees! * How sweet is your promise to my tongue, *
With all their hearts they seek him. more than honey in the mouth.

2. I treasure your word in my heart, * 4. Your word is a lamp for my feet, *

lest I sin against you. and a light for my path.
Remember your word to your servant, * I rejoice at your promise, *
by which you made me hope. like one who finds a great treasure.
This is my comfort in sorrow: *
that your promise gives me life.

In lieu of receiving the Eucharist, you may elect to receive a blessing from the Priest, Deacon, or Eucharistic Minister.

COMMUNION HYMNS
You Satisfy the Hungry Heart (Gather #816) BICENTENNIAL
At That First Eucharist (Gather #840) UNDE ET MEMORES

ARCHDIOCESAN EVANGELIZATION PRAYER

Holy Spirit, renew your wonders in our time, as though in a new Pentecost, and grant that this
Archdiocese, united in prayer around Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and guided by St. Peter, may spread the
Kingdom of the divine Savior, a Kingdom of truth, of justice, of love, and of peace. Amen. Saint Paul,
our great missionary patron, pray for us!
EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION AND BENEDICTION (8:30am)
On the occasion of the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, it is desirable to have a Eucharistic
procession around the church followed by a solemn Benediction. The procession will be conducted outdoors, weather
permitting. If so, you are invited to join in the procession and sing the following hymns:

O Salutaris Hostia (Gather #130) DUGUET

Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven (Gather #531) LAUDA ANIMA

Godhead Here in Hiding ADORO TE DEVOTE

BENEDICTION
The following hymn is sung as the Blessed Sacrament is incensed. Then, the faithful kneel as they are blessed with the
Eucharist itself. Since, in the Eucharistic Benediction, the final blessing comes forth from Christ himself, truly present
in the Blessed Sacrament, the usual Concluding Rite and Dismissal are omitted.

Tantum Ergo Sacramentum (Gather #132) ST. THOMAS

REPOSITION
It is customary to recite the Divine Praises once the Blessed Sacrament has been reposed in the tabernacle.

Blessed be God. Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.

Blessed be his holy name. Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy.
Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man. Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception.
Blessed be the name of Jesus. Blessed be her glorious Assumption.
Blessed be his most sacred heart. Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.
Blessed be his most precious blood. Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse.
Blessed be Jesus in the most holy sacrament of the altar. Blessed be God in his angels and in his saints.

The congregation then sings the recessional hymn.
