“The Devil Wears Prada”
Miranda Priestly, the demanding editor-in-chief of a high fashion magazine,
hires a smart but sensible new graduate as her assistant. Andy is a recent
college graduate with lofty ambitions. She becomes the assistant to diabolical
editor Miranda Priestly after landing a job at prestigious Runway magazine.
Andy doubts her ability to survive Miranda's grueling tour without getting
scorched. Andrea Sachs, a fresh journalism graduate who is unassuming and
naive, is hired in New York to serve as Miranda Priestly's second assistant.
Priestly is the ruthless and merciless executive of the Runway fashion
magazine. Andrea views the chance as a short-term professional challenge
while pursuing her dream of becoming a journalist. First assistant Emily gives
Andrea advice regarding the traits and preferences of their ruthless boss, and
stylist Nigel assists Andrea in dressing more appropriately for the setting.
Andrea's attitude and behavior changes, which have an impact on her personal
life, her relationship with her boyfriend Nate, her family, and her friends. In the
end, Andrea discovers that decisions are a part of life. Andy gets the dream job
that "a million girls would kill for" after graduating from university: assistant to
Miranda, the chief editor of Runway, the industry's best-selling fashion
magazine. If she can survive a year working for Miranda, she will be on her way
to a career in journalism. Andy, who has no sense of fashion, begins a fish-out-
of-water drama as she is thrust into a fast-paced, three-inch-minimum-heel-
height, diet coke and coffee substance abuse lifestyle. Andy works extremely
hard to meet Miranda's inexhaustible demands. She even becomes fashionable
and sophisticated. However, she gradually realizes that she is working 24 hours
a day, seven days a week, and her life with boyfriend Nate and best friend Lily
is slipping away from her. Then,, she realizes she is losing sight of what is truly
important to her. She does not want to lose herself, no matter how many
Monolos and Jimmy Choos she can acquire along the way. Andrea's
professional adventure is told in the story, and her greatest ambition is to
become a journalist. Andrea finds work in the fashion industry through Runway
magazine, the most well-known of its kind, in order to make ends meet. Andrea,
on the other hand, will hone her writing skills as the editor in chief's assistant,
Miranda. The problem is that Miranda is a merciless, posh, and cruel woman
who makes the girl's experience a living hell. The environment will be cold, and
the physical appearance will be scrutinized. To gain the acceptance of her
ruthless boss and colleagues, especially Emily, her unpleasant workmate, the
girl will have to change her simple and plain style for a more trendy and elegant
one. Despite everything going against Andrea at work, she will view the
experience as a challenge, drastically altering her clothing and self-image with
the assistance of Nigel, the magazine's art director. Nonetheless, the job
becomes extremely demanding as a result of Miranda's strict work schedule
and nearly impossible tasks, leaving Andrea with no time to spend with her
boyfriend, family, or friends. Perhaps Andrea has changed, and she is now
more concerned with her image and future in the magazine. There is a
misalignment between job seekers' expectations and workplace reality. Andy
joined Runway magazine with the intention of becoming a reporter or writer.
She initially finds the job difficult due to her boss's unreasonable demands and
gossipy coworkers. Andy famously splits up with Miranda after Miranda does
something Andy considers unjust, destroying Nigel's career to save her own.
Miranda then tells Andy that she would have done the same thing because she
did something similar to gain favor at Runway. Her tireless work ethic and
dedication to the job have taken precedence over everything else, particularly
relationships. Miranda is forced to repeatedly choose between human values
such as relationships, loyalty, and care for those she loves and the demands of
her job as time passes. The Devil Wears Prada's ostensibly simple message is:
Don't sacrifice your life, well-being, and self hood for a job. Behind that
message is the same old backbeat: Those who can't handle it will fall by the
wayside, and we'll pretend they're justified rather than weak.
