CHAPTER – 1
ABOUT THE INDUSTRY
Finance is defined as the providing of funding and management of money for individuals, businesses, and
governments. The financial system includes the circulation of money, managing · of investments, and
lending of funds. In businesses, the finance team is responsible for ensuring the company has enough capital,
that the appropriate investments are made, and that the company's revenues and expenses are well managed.
This guide will analyze each of the various types of finance.
A large portion of this sector generates revenue from mortgages and loans, which gain value as interest rates
drop. The health of the economy depends, in large part, on the strength of its financial sector. The stronger it
is, the healthier the economy. A weak financial sector typically means the economy is weakening.
Many people equate the financial sector with Wall Street and the exchanges that operate on it. But there's
much more to it than that. The financial sector is one of the most important parts of many developed
economies. It is made up of brokers, financial institutions, and money markets-all of which provide the
services needed to help keep Main Street functioning every day.
In order for an economy to remain stable, it needs to have a healthy financial sector. This sector advances
loans for businesses so they can expand. grants mortgages to homeowners, and issues insurance policies to
protect people, companies, and their assets. It also helps build up savings for retirement and employs
millions of people.
The financial sector generates a good portion of its revenue from loans and mortgages. These gain value in
an environment where interest rates drop. When rates are low, the economic conditions. open up the doors
for more capital projects and investment. When this happens, the financial sector benefits, meaning more
economic growth.
Insight into the Financial Sector in India
India has a variegated financial sector which is experiencing rapid expansion, both in terms of the healthy
growth of existing financial services firms and new market entry entities. The industry comprises
commercial banks, insurance companies, financial non-banks, cooperatives, pension funds, mutual funds,
and other smaller financial institutions. However, India's financial sector is predominantly a banking sector
with commercial banks accounting for over 64 percent of the financial system's total assets. India's
government has introduced several reforms to liberalize, regulate, and enhance that industry.
Stock Market
Stock market is a place where people buy/sell shares of publicly listed companies. It offers a platform to
facilitate seamless exchange of shares. In simple terms, if A wants to sell shares of Reliance Industries, the
stock market will help him to meet the seller who.is willing to buy Reliance Industries. However, it is
important to note that a person can trade in the stock market only through a registered intermediary known
as a stock broker. The buying and selling of shares take place through electronic medium.
Major Stock Exchanges in India
There are two main stock exchanges in India where majority of the trades take place - Bombay Stock
Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Apart from these two exchanges, there are some
other regional stock exchanges like Bangalore Stock Exchange, Madras Stock Exchange etc.
National Stock Exchange (NSE)
NSE is the leading stock exchange in India · where one can buy/sell shares of publicly listed companies. It
was established in the year 1992 and is located in Mumbai. NSE has a flagship index named as NIFTY 50.
The index comprises of the top 50 companies based on its trading volume and market capitalization. This
index is widely used by investors in India as well as globally as the barometer of the Indian capital markets.
Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)
BSE is Asia’s first as well as the oldest stock exchange in India. It was established in 1875 and is located in
Mumbai. It has a total of ~5,295 companies listed out of which ~3,972 are available for trading as on August
21, 2017. BSE Sensex is the flagship index of BSE. It measures the performance of the 30 largest, most
liquid and financially stable companies across key sectors.
Regulator of the Indian Stock Market
The Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is the regulatory body of the Indian Stock Markets. The
main objective of SEBI is to safeguard the interest of retail investors, promote the development of stock
exchanges, and regulate the activities of financial intermediaries and investors in the market. SEBI ensures
the following:
• The stock exchanges (BSE and NSE), brokers and sub-brokers conduct their business fairly.
• Corporate houses should not use markets as a mean to unfairly benefit themselves.
• Small retail investors' interest is protected.
• Large investors with huge cash should not manipulate markets.

CONCLUSION & SUGGESTIONS
Suggestions:-
Proper approach should be used to encourage manual trading in individuals.
Charges should be minimized for trading software.
Make the trading software more user friendly.
Conclusion:-
It was complete useful experience working at Arihant Capital. This experience brought out my strength and
also the areas I needed to make up. It added more confidence to my Professional approach built a stronger
positive attitude and taught me how to work in Team as a player. The primary objective of an internship is to
gather a real-life working experience and put their theoretical knowledge in practice. This was a great
experience to work in Financial & Commodity market. During my training I have developed a lot of
confidence and courage in this industry.
The internship was also good to find out what our strengths and weakness are. This helped us to define what
skills and knowledge we have to improve in the coming time. We can confidently assert that the knowledge
we gained through this internship is sufficient to contribute towards our future endeavors. At last, this
internship has given us new insights and motivation to pursue a career in finance sector.
