Driscoll Reflection

Over the last 10 years, the student has been absent from traditional study and class attendance. They recently enrolled in an undergraduate Construction Management degree program which included an Academy Writing and Research module. This module helped the student learn fundamental writing, research, and referencing skills. While the module provided engaging activities and interaction, it was disastrous from a time management perspective for the student. The student felt comfortable learning technical skills but was anxious about presenting a construction management topic. They enjoyed expressing themselves freely while respecting others' differing views. The student discovered reflective models that can help identify experiences for improvement and help deal with challenges by learning from them. What:

Over the las 10 years, study and attend to a class have been absent from the day-to-day life for the
learner. Now the enrolment in this Construction Management undergraduate degree has change to
a enriching and new habits starting with Academy Writing and Research (AWR) module where
basically the student learned and put into practice the fundamental bases of writing assignments,
improve the capacity to meditate or reflect on the experiences, enhance and develop great
academic practice and master basic techniques such as research writing and referencing also during.
On the one hand this journey was an engaging experience where dynamic activities, important
information and the interaction with peers and profesor fulfilled the expectations, on the other hand
disastrous from the Student’s time management point of view.

So What:

Through the module the student felt comfortable, attractive and open to technical skills learned.
Delighted for all knowledge and information received. These reactions are due to previous
experience in similar atmosphere which helps in some way to be more adaptable and flexible to new
experience and challenges which there will be there always due to every place is unique with subtle
and drastic differences, at the same time, In contrast the anxiety and stressed feelings came out
when it has to do with a presentation of a construction management topic which the student will
discuss in more detail in section 3. Diversity and different values are present everywhere nowadays
in our society and in classroom is not an exception the student felt joyful and free to express and
communicate at anytime considering every single person has different values and contrasting ideas
the major goal for everyone is learning and develop skills with respect, patience, sensitivity and
tolerance.

Now what:

The learner discovered new ways and techniques to impart knowledge through search and correct
referencing also reflecting methods such as Gibb’s reflective cycle and Driscoll’s model of reflection
which allows identify and recognise experiences that the learner can potentially improve helping to
deal with demanding challenges and learn from them. As every event in life there are advantages
and disadvantages, one impediment was writing for the first time a reflection in academic writing
following a structured method as mentioned, in this case the student wasn’t able to prevent this
negative situation instead, took advantage and opportunity to learn how implement this process in
life basis and future career. More over In a similar situation in the future time management is key to
accomplish any task, set goal immediately the student clearly has become aware of.
