Tyler.B Core Competency Reflection October.
Personal awareness and responsibility:
Strengths:
1. I am personally responsible, self-motivated, and can advocate for myself.
I had difficulty managing my time and doing good in school, but I found the value of self-discipline and
got hold of my education. Despite my lack of expertise, I joined a concert band and jazz band. My self-
discipline paid off. My high school experiences helped me develop into a person who accepts
responsibility and maintains motivation, preparing me for challenges in the future.
2. I can set goals, regulate my emotions, and persevere in tricky situations.
My high school experiences had a significant impact on how I set goals, controlled my emotions, and
pushed through tough times. I acquired the ability to effectively observe and accomplish goals. For
example, by establishing objectives and a strategy to achieve them, I was able to increase my academic
results. To deal with stress and resolve disagreements, I used strategies like being mindful. The most
important lesson, though, may have been to persevere. I persevered through setbacks and self-doubt to
complete a challenging research project. Since then, these abilities have become especially important in
both my personal and professional lives, enabling me to take on challenges with determination.
Weakness:
1. I understand learning takes patience and time
I discovered that understanding does not come quickly in challenging subjects. In a challenging math
subject, I had trouble, but I kept through constant practice and demanding studies, and I soon saw
improvement. High school’s extracurricular activities such as having a math tutor supported this notion.
I came to understand that success needs consistent work overtime, whether that be learning a musical
instrument or doing well in sports. My view of learning as a journey rather than a sprint has been
shaped by these experiences. As I pursue higher education and professional development, I have
learned that it demands perseverance and dedication to solid progress.
Social Responsibility:
Strengths:
1. I am aware of my community, environment, and work independently and collaboratively for the
benefit of others.
I became quite aware of my surroundings and community in high school. I gained knowledge about the
need to work both on your own and with others for the good of everyone. I started taking personal
choices like lowering my carbon footprint by picking up trash and not wasting plastic. This showed me
that effective change results in a better you. Today, I continue to use this knowledge and skill set to
positively affect my community and the environment, seeing the value of both solitary and teamwork to
make the world cleaner.
2. I can identify and appreciate different perspectives on issues and use and evaluate strategies to
resolve problems.
I learned the pros of empathy and understanding in high school through being shown to a variety of
viewpoints on many topics. I actively was in projects where I worked with classmates to evaluate and
put into practice unique problem-solving techniques, such as dealing with complex trigonometry
concepts to make roofing for buildings. Through these experiences, I have improved to appreciate many
points of view and learned the significance of using and critically analyzing solutions to address complex
problems and skills that still help to this day.
Weakness:
1. I value diversity, defend human rights, advocate for others, and act ethically in all my
interactions, including online.
I became aware of the need for development in my skills during group projects in high school. When
disagreements happened, there were times when I could have been more forgiving and understanding. I
could have listened, valued other people's opinions, and displayed empathy and support instead of
reacting defensively. This lesson has stuck with me and has reinforced the value of developing friendly
and polite connections in all cooperative projects.
Critical Thinking:
Strengths:
1. I can analyze and make defensible judgements, draw conclusions, and consider a variety of
perspectives.
High school let me sharpen my thinking skills, make smart decisions, and consider many viewpoints. One
event that stands out is a debate that took place in my genocide studies class. I did a lot of research and
listened to arguments on all sides before deciding on a position. This helped me in making sound
decisions and in having productive conversations with others who had different opinions. In conclusion,
it gave me the ability to analyze, generate smart judgements, and value various points of view and
achievements that have served me well in a variety of situations.
2. I understand the purpose for my work and consider my audience.
My high school experiences made me realize how important it is to know why I am doing something and
who my audience is. I have discovered a variety of projects and activities that having a goal makes real
influence in addition to motivating people. I also understand the importance of changing my
communication to my target audience's requirements, interests, and expectations. For example, when
planning a school presentation, I concentrated on including my classmates by choosing topics and ideas
that would appeal to them. My approach to work and communication has been influenced by these
teachings, which show the importance of audience consideration and meaningful tasks in producing
reliable results.
Weakness:
1. I can explore and create new ways to represent my learning around a variety of problems,
events, issues, and needs.
In high school, I realized that trying out different methods could help me learn more effectively. I
frequently relied on things such as textbooks and classroom teaching. However, I may have benefited
from utilizing different tools, such online classes, podcasts, and practical training. I also could have
participated more in dialogues with peers and teachers to expand my learning and get different points
of view. Finally, I realized the value of time management and great study methods, which I could have
improved to accelerate my learning process.
Creative Thinking:
Strengths:
1. I can create new and unique ideas that may provide new perspectives that influence how people
think about topics.
I developed the ability to produce original thoughts in high school that can offer new insights on a
variety of themes. I learned about the influence of creative thinking in developing viewpoints through
talks, debates, and creative tasks. I was further motivated to question getting stuck with the same
thoughts and influence people to examine new perspectives from my English classes and music. These
encounters continue to inspire me to look for new answers and shape how others currently think about
significant issues.
2. I can use the environment around me, including others, and my unconscious mind to generate
new ideas.
I learned in high school how to use my surroundings, other people's suggestions, and my mind to make
new thoughts. My creativity was encouraged by collaboration and conversations with peers that
introduced me to many perspectives. During pauses or times of grief, I learned to trust my unconscious
mind, which produced original ideas. For example, while working on a collaborative assignment,
brainstorming, and thought lead us to a novel idea. I learned how to consider other people's opinions
and find the value of creative thinking from these experiences, which I now use to produce very great
ideas and tackle challenging situations.
Weakness:
1. I can take my ideas, evaluate, develop, and refine them and make something productive out of
them.
My high school years taught me that producing ideas is just the start. The actual value comes from
analyzing, expanding, and transforming those concepts into something useful. For example, while
working on a group assignment, we found a concept that needed to be refined and critically assessed to
become a workable answer. I also found this lesson while writing creatively, where the first paper was
only the beginning. The revising process is when the actual results happened. These encounters have
taught me that careful editing and constant improvement are necessary steps on the path from an idea
to productive results. This lesson continues to serve as a guide for me, showing the value of persistent
work in transforming concepts into solid outcomes.
Communication:
Strengths:
1. I can listen, learn to contribute meaningfully to discussion and debate, consider different
perspectives, and build consensus.
High school has improved my capacity to listen, participate meaningfully in discussions, consider other
points of view, and come to an agreement. Like how appreciating the emotions in a tune is important,
active listening has been important in music. The importance of cultural viewpoints in debates was
emphasized in French class. I learned to find harmony through agreement through both music and
French. My knowledge was increased by my interactions with diverse students. High school, which
combines music and language, gives me the tools I need to participate meaningfully in discussions and
debates, so helping my future personal growth and contributions.
2. I can reflect on the processes of learning and share what I have learned.
I learned the benefits of self-reflection and information sharing in high school. Self-awareness has
helped me grow, and making errors and learning from them has given me resilience. Collaboration and
increased comprehension have both been made by sharing ideas in the classroom and through
extracurricular activities. The results of group reflection, such as in English class and volunteer work,
have improved the class. I am dedicated to continual self-improvement and information sharing since it
is crucial for developing personally and giving back to my community.
Weakness:
1. I can engage in deep and meaningful inquiry for a variety of purposes and audiences.
An important commitment for me is to develop my capacity for careful investigation. I will develop my
research abilities, listen carefully, adjust my communication style, and foster curiosity. Growth requires
patience, self-awareness, teamwork, knowledge retention, mentorship, and self-reflection. This pursuit
of important inquiry is a lifetime effort.
Personal & Cultural Identity:
Strengths:
1. I understand how to use my strengths and abilities to my advantage, and I can explain how I use
them to contribute to my community.
I learned how to effectively use my skills and qualities for the good of my community in high school. I
have gained the ability to recognize my special qualities and use them to create positive change through
a variety of experiences. It has been especially important to comprehend my strengths, which include
leadership, communication, and empathy. I have succeeded in my academic and extracurricular
endeavors thanks to these strengths. I have promoted collaborative learning settings, led initiatives, and
actively given back to my community by putting my skills and interests to beneficial use. I am
determined to keep using my abilities going ahead to find community problems and truly make a
difference.
2. I know my strengths and what makes me unique.
High school has been an adventure of self-discovery that has helped me identify my personal traits and
strengths. I have been aware of my academic prowess, aptitude for leadership, capacity for effective
communication, increased capacity for empathy, and passion for hobbies. These realizations have
influenced my high school career and will help me influence others for the better in the future.
Weakness:
1. I understand that culture is a broad concept that includes things like my geographic region,
nationality, sex/gender, age, ethnicity, sexuality, language, and religion.
My awareness of culture's complexity in high school has expanded to include geography, nationality,
gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, language, and religion. I have discovered how to develop
different friendships, get fully involved in cultural pursuits, look for experiences through travel and
exchange, take part in cultural sensitivity training, and continuously read about and think about cultural
issues. My curiosity has been motivated by these encounters, and I am determined to keep exploring
and appreciating diverse cultures.
