Chapter IV
Introduction
To be able to complete this study, series of interviews have been conducted by the
researchers for them to be able to have proper data and information regarding the topic
in which they are trying to conduct as the topic of their study. Hence, it is important that
the researchers took measures to have a better understanding regarding the topic.
Respondents came from Ago National High School, senior high school students from
the said school were interviewed to assess the impact of parental concerns to their
academic performance.
Analysis of Questionnaires
The students were prompt with some questions related to their parents and the
academic performance of themselves. This questions are based solely for the purpose
of this study, it tries to answer the curiosity regarding the importance of parents to the
academic performance of Senior High School students of Ago National High School.
For the first interview, student A narrated that parents are included in his life in which his
parents are the ones who enrolled him and educate him in his school. He also added
that they taught him how to drive and even cared for him in his younger years. In this
scenario, it shows the relationship between student a and his parents, it emphasizes the
importance of parents to his life. Second question seeks to ask how consistent his
parents in teaching him, he added that his parents are not that active now when it
comes to teaching him. One theory that supports this is that the child is now a young-
adolescent who can take care of him with a much lesser activeness of the parents
taking care of him. He also added that his parents are not that supportive when it comes
to his dreams, he told the researchers that he is uncertain whether or not they are going
to support his future profession and course to be taken in college or the parents are just
going to choose the profession they think best fits the student.
Moreover, he added that his guardians, when they are not actively teaching or helping
him do his homeworks, it gives them a bad image and impression to the child. It gives
him tardiness to do his homeworks and affects his academic performance due to this
reason. Another thing that he stated is that, he can recall those times, especially when
he is in primary school, that his parents were so active in directing him and helping him
do this homeworks at home, he told the researchers that he misses those days.
For the second interviewee, student B, she narrated that her parents were so important
to her to the point that the involvement of her parents to her is that they let her study in
a good school, paying her tuition fees and allowances. She added that whenever she
gets sad and struggles in her academics, her parents are always there to support her.
This is a clear example that to the second interviewee, parental involvement are
essential to the academic performance of children. She also stated that her parents are
teaching her how to be independent, to develop social skills, and learn how to be nice to
others in school and outside school. While narrating, she emphasized that it is really
important to have parental involvement in determining the success of the child, it can be
shown through the support and help to decide what is good for her.
In the second paragraph and set of questionnaires thrown by the researchers to student
B, the interviewee said that the parents should always possess and teach children good
morals and right conduct, to teach them how to be independent because according to
her, not all the time, there is someone you can depend on. The negative impact
according to her, given by the parents, perhaps, is that when there is minimal parental
involvement, the child would likely to disrespect someone, in a school environment, the
child would be likely to disrespect the teacher and will have a low-self esteem with a
minimal parental involvement. She also added that lack of time of the parents to their
child would often lead to they cannot give children proper attention, hence, low-self
esteem of the child.
For the third one, student C, she was posed with questions, she answered immediately
that her parents are directly involved in raising her up as a young-adolescent. She also
added that her parents has been supportive when it comes to her academic, reminding
her to always do her best at school and the like. She agrees that parental involvement
directly affects the success of students and their children, just like in her case, she can
easily focus to her study when her parents are supportive. Her parents also ask her very
often how did her day went and how is her academic performance to assess her in her
daily activities. Although, it is a bit interesting that student C do not believe that parents
have direct impact to the success of their child, this is because she has not seen
anything like that before, she also emphasizes that there are rich people and successful
people without their parents, they still became successful.
Table of Questions

become significant, especially when it
comes to education.
Q2 The common answers found in this study,

academics.

that the success of them (the children) is
contingent upon the given parental
assistance and guidance of their parents.

Chapter V
Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendations
Summary
This study aims to justify the importance of parental involvement and parents per se to
the academic performance and success of their children in the long run, in the society,
as a civilian, and as a student. Upon interviewing various Senior High School students
coming from Ago National High School, it is safe to say that it parental involvement
plays a vital role in the process of growing up from a child to a young-adolescent.
Parents play a crucial role in the academic success of their children. From the early
years of their child's life, parents are the first teachers and are responsible for their
development. They instill values, set expectations, and provide guidance for their child's
education and growth. As children grow, parents also must adapt and provide support
throughout their academic journey. Parental involvement play a vital role in laying a
strong foundation for their child's education. Starting from an early age, parents can
read stories, play games, and introduce them to numbers and letters to help develop
cognitive skills that aid in learning later on. In addition, a strong emotional connection
between the child and their parents can contribute to better academic performance
because children feel more confident and secure in their learning environment.
Furthermore, parents can help build healthy study habits and routines that are
necessary in an academic setting.
By creating an effective study schedule, encouraging regular study breaks, and
dedicating a study space, parents can improve their child's focus and concentration,
leading to better performance in school. When parents take an active role in the
academic lives of their children, not only can they improve their abilities, but they also
help foster a love of learning that can last a lifetime. Another way parents can support
their child's academic success is by actively involving themselves in their child's
education. Attending parent-teacher conferences, scheduling regular check-ins with
teachers, and supporting school events can make a significant impact on the education
of a child. When parents stay informed about their child's progress, they can help
identify potential challenges and seek resources that can help their child overcome such
barriers.
Conclusion:
Parents can use different approaches to support their child's learning by providing
resources outside the classroom. They can engage their child in discussions about
current events and issues, encourage them to read books from a variety of genres,
enable museum or art gallery visits, and introduce them to educational apps and
games. A child's education encompasses more than just grades; parents can help
develop their child's critical thinking skills and curiosity for their world. As a result,
parents play a crucial role in the academic success of their children. By laying a strong
foundation, establishing healthy study habits, actively involving themselves in their
child's education, and providing resources outside of the classroom, parents can
positively influence the academic performance of their child. As technology advances,
more opportunities arise to understand and develop ways for parents to be more
supportive of their children's academic success.
Recommendations:
For Parents
The parental involvement of parents, as shown in this study plays a vital role in having
to produce or to raise a good child with good morals and right conduct. This is also a
determining factor whether or not the children will be raised with values instilled in them
while also determining their future success as a citizen and in their academic career to
their professional career. In addition, it is also important to take into consideration the
time management of parents to balance their work and family in general in order for
them to have an advantage and adequate amount of time to raise their children in a
good way and properly.
For Future Researches:
This study aims to justify the parental involvement, whether or not it is important to the
success of students. However, the only gap that can be seen here is that the
methodology, the respondents only came from Ago National High School, it is
preferable to do this research in a wider scope and perspective to clearly understand
that correlation between parental involvement and academic success of their children.
For Teachers:
In this study, it has been found that the involvement of teachers to their students is as
essential as the involvement of parents to their children’s growth as teachers serve as
second parents of these students in their academic institutions.
