Very EZ word problems.

1. If 20 bakers can bake 40 pizzas in 8 hours, how many bakers can bake 10 pizzas
in 2 hours?
A: 20 bakers
2. Two boats start from the same point and travel in opposite directions along a
straight river. The speed of the current in the river is 3 km/h. The speed of one
boat in still water is 2 km/h faster than the other. If they are 100 km apart after 5
hours, what is the speed of each boat in still water?
A: 9 and 11 km/h
3. The sum of Kim’s and Kevins ages is 18. In 3 years, Kim will be twice as old as
Kevin. What are their ages now?
A: 5, 13
4. Mary is 24 years old. Mary is twice as old as Ann was when Mary was as old as
Ann is now. How old is Ann now?
A: 18 years old
5. A tank can be filled in 9 hours by one pipe, 12 hours by a second pipe, and can
be drained by a third pipe in 15 hours. How long will it take to fill an empty tank
with all pipes in operation?
A: 7 hours and 50 minutes
6. A tank is filled with an intake pipe in 2 hours and emptied by an outlet pipe in 4
hours. If both pipes are opened, how long will it take to fill an empty tank?
A: 4 hours
7. If A can do the work in x days and B in y days, how long will they finish the job
working together?
A: xy/x+y
8. Ian has four more quarters than dimes. If he has a total of $1.70, how many
quarters and dimes does he have?
A: Q=6, D=2
9. Sid has $4.85 in coins. If he has six more nickels than dimes and twice as many
quarters as dimes, how many coins of each type does he have?
A: D=7, N=13, Q=14
10. A pound of alloy of lead and nickel weighs 14.4 ounces in water, where lead
loses 1/11 of its weight and nickel loses 1/9 of its weight. How much of each
metal is in the alloy?
A: Pb=8.8, Ni=7.2
